Need help for Maelstrom fit for L4

Hi all,

Just returned after a 4 years absence, trying to remembering how this game work & making ISK using the PvE High-Sec content before droping in low/null content.

I recently unlock de L4 mission for SOE and after look at it that not a mission my old Hurricane can stand for so I go for a battleship, the Maelstrom, because I really like the arty turret gameplay.

But it turn out my actual fit on Maelstorm lack of damage to do “big” L4 mission, so I probably miss a point somewhere, even if my skills are not maxed yet.

So I’m here to rethink my fitting.

I don’t use the X-Large Shield Booster I in continue (not stable), only when I drop below 30% on shield.
And, yeah, T1 drone, I know, I forgot about that when I make it but skills need time so this mistake will be fixed at the end of the week.

indeed, you do very little DPS. I have 364 with EMP L on your fit.

By adding two compact gyros I reach 469 DPS from turrets.
using RF ammos I get 539 DPS from turrets. It’s still low, but not as bad as the 364 original.

using two invuls and one large cap battery II allows me to have much more ehp regen.

Here’s an alternative fit to give you some ideas to consider. It uses an omni-tank with well balanced resistances across all damage types intended to not have to fit mission specific resists every time, which you may or may not like:

Boi. 500 dps is no good. If I where you Id rather go with a Macheriel(if u got the isk for it) or cruise missile typhon if u wana stick to minmatar and want to keep range.

Thats what I use. Ita a bit blingy bot its a beast. Fast, agile and good dps with good falloff.

I dont think arts are good for pve. I pick mack myself coz its fast and has bonus to fallof wich is good for AC.

You can also try to use Autocannons on the Maelstrom. They tend to work better in PvE, as you can even hit frigates up to around 20 km (depends on transversal of course).

The fit below tries to extend the Falloff, allowing you to apply your damage earlier (around 50% DPS at first falloff). The MWD is very shiny but it allows you to get in brawl range quickly. Once in range (10-12 km for BS, slightly more for smaller ships) you can turn it off to save cap. Upgrade Guns to T2 if you have the skills.

The thing is: The Machariel is so much better for Brawling. It comes with a sizeable Falloff bonus, it moves fast in subwarp (more than 600 m/s with a shiny AB) and it even warps faster than other battleships, saving time between missions.

The tactic is basically always the same. Move away from incoming frigates in a straight line while you dispatch them. Then turn and engage the bigger ships in brawling range. You can also use drones to get rid of frigates, but beware the Elite frigates, as they will eat your drones.

Thanks alot for your answers, I can now see what I’m doing wrong on my initial fit.

I can’t got for a Macheriel yet, I’m lack of ISK and need some days for learn Gallente skills but I thinking about make it my next short goal ship. Because I don’t train any skill missile other than basic, I think Typhoon will not be on my list before a couple of time. And if I can, I will stick to the turret gameplay. Event if it’s not the most efficient way, if it’s enough efficient to me, I’ll go with it^^

Waiting to go for an other ship, I will try some of change you advised me and give a try to the Autocannons. I will not let my Maelstrom go on waste so fast.

There is way to much fitting mods, either the OP has low fitting skills or using the X-Large Shield Booster/MJD which eats into the fitting problems. Loosing the XL Booster would solve most of the problem as a large shield booster is is fine, with 1200mm should fit as sniper plus a sensor booster for range and if you jump out 100km you won’t have a lock plus slow travel time. Avoid the II rigs cause of cost, basic 1 is fine. If you need PG, reactor controls are better and you should be pulsing an XL anyway, cap stab would be over kill with it.
