Nerf Ganking Megathread

I appreciate your sentiments yet I have some disagreement. EVE can be so far removed from RL that its extremely confusing. But part of that is due to how computers work and also a need to not make things even more confusing.

For example, lets say the Concord response was random in a frame of 2 seconds to never. If it was always a throw of the dice and even the best laid plans failed, just like in RL, would players be happy with that? I don’t think so. That kills the escapism so many players seek.

And about the ship loss…lets talk old piracy. They did not count on destruction of their ships, but it was often expected enough when using smaller ships to capture larger ships that would then become their new pirate ship. And now lets talk modern pirates…these guys use speedboats to capture oil tankers. Do they care if they lose their speedboats? Not really. One successful capture of an oil tanker will net them millions of dollars in ransom.

Now ask yourself, how is EVE going to simulate that? Well to do it perfectly would mean starting over from scratch because hardly any of EVE’s related mechanics is going to allow it. All they really could do was preserve the essence of piracy…attack others, get paid, and suffer from law enforcement.

When it comes down to it CCP has done a great job balancing the essence of things with what can be practically be done. I think there is room for improvement, but considering what has already been done, its not going to be a cakewalk.

My biggest issue is calling a place with rampant piracy a “high security area”, and have law enforcement all over turning a blind eye to known pirates until they attack an innocent, AND allowing them to set up structures, dock, etc. AND allowing known pirates even with rock bottom security stats to use gates into high security space. Sense just can’t really be made of those things except to say, well, if HS was actually safe EVE would be boring…which I don’t agree with but its an understandable opinion.
