Nerf Ganking Megathread

What I’m trying to make you see is that it’s fundamentally flawed to tie something like “ganking” to mental health or personality issues. Messed up people will be messed up, and those who choose to play villains in a video game aren’t necessarily messed up, just like those who choose not to play the villains aren’t necessarily not messed up.

I kill players in EVE and in real life I’m a blood super-donor and volunteer with the homeless. Someone else just wants to “mine in peace” and gets ganked, and then starts threatening to hunt down and kill players in real life.

People don’t fall into neat little buckets the way your mind rationalizes everything away unless you train it not to.

The problem is the game trying to cater to both types of audience. “Minecraft” and “Fortnite” are different type games played by different types of people. There is no “one-size-fits-all” solution.
Consequently, the struggle is eternal: “stop ruining my builds!”, “no! you stop barring my pewpew!”.

Therefore, I advocate for having a “pve” EVE server with all pvp interactions limited to full consent. For those players who like minecraft and don’t like to be murdered, vaporized, blasted, annihilated or otherwise killed in an assortment of horrible and supremely painful ways. And if the violent realm is called “Tranquility” let the peaceful one be known as “Calamity” and hope that some people can appreciate the irony.

But this is not Minecraft, or Fortnite…this is Eve Online!

if i want one of the above, i will quit Eve and join them!

And i believe, i´m not the only one who thinks so.

It’s called High Security because crime is rampant. Facts that cry bears don’t want to understand.

Regardless of its name a game is down to these genres. That’s why i used quotes there. You can’t have both kid-friendly and chainsaw massacre in one product as it would be underwhelming in both regards.

All good appreciat your post. It is it what it is and I’m able to see from your point of view. I was just having a little play around. I’m not that unreasonable.

I myself work with the homeless and vulnerable. I admire you for the field you are in. It’s not easy. Takes alot of patience and understanding.

Don´t agree!

Eve is that mix from beginning and works for many years how it is.
I don´t want a pure PvE Server, i don´t want a pure PvP Server, i like Eve how it is.
If some players don´t like it, well they should leave.
or in other word: “adapt, or die”

From a marketing standpoint and reasoning other than “my way or the highway” it is counterproductive. If you want a community to be thriving and healthy you need to create appeal, not to turn people away. Otherwise you will be left alone when all of them leave.

The game is catering to one audience: that of people who understand that both destruction and construction are part of this game.

Some people enjoy doing PvE and EVE is offering that possibility.

Another crowd, the one that likes destruction, is also filling a role that EVE is catering to.

Both are at home in EVE and EVE caters to both. I enjoy both playstyles, and I spend most time doing PvE lately.

Then there is a delusional crowd that EVE is not catering to: The ‘PvE in peace’ crowd.

These people mistook EVE for a game it isn’t and made the mistake of staying around in a game that they don’t like. EVE is not a game to do PvE in peace. Occasionally you see these people on the forums, trying to change the game into a different game, rather than doing the more logical thing: if they want no players to negatively interfere with their gameplay, then they could play one of the many other games that do not have ‘interfering with other players’ as a core gameplay value.

Split Eve into PvP and PvE Servers and we will loose 80% of our player base, i´m really sure

Of course. Basically the entire HS population (which is “coincidentally” around 80%) would go pve

why are they still here, if they want to play without any risc?

I’d like to see them do that, and then see them complain how the economy in the PvE server would be as bad as the one on the test server.

Everything is so cheap, I can buy it all! Why can’t I get a good price for anything though? Why is my ore worthless??

The normal (PvP + PvE) server would suffer from a reduction in amount of players, but at least the game would be playable with a functioning economy.

Because there are no better alternatives on the market with the same depth to it? Because sunk cost? Because they gave up hopes for starcitizen to ever be finished? Who are to say.

Agree to that …and some people want to cut the depth of the game?

Now, we are all free to decide what playstyle, we wanna play…Miner, Indu, TraderPvP, PvE, whatever and even Pirate.
And this on a single server, in a single game.

That´s what Eve is and that´s what most of us like.

Why would i sell my ore? When i can mine some ore without any added worry about interruptions, build some ships, take them to the disignated pvp-area where i can consent to pvp and blow them up in a spectacular fashion?

i can see the super safe hisec, full of afk miners in belts, that post in forum that they want NPC´s not to spawn there, because they interupt their mining

Rust ?

Minmatar threat intensifies

If that’s what you see, then you need to get your eyes checked. And your brain.

If Highsec will become just PVE focused. I smell CCP pouring trigs on it. No one can mine or haul without trig nightmares.lol

hehe,

i would prefer to handle The code, or Safety. than Trigs
