Nerf Ganking Megathread

People tell me where to find targets because they like me, and want to see me succeed. On the other hand, you want CCP to modify the game so you get the same intel without employing social skills. I’m sorry friend, it’s just not gonna happen. Time to learn how to make friends and influence people!

Does not compute.

And you can grow up and stop insulting me now. Normal person? A normal person could discuss this without the direct ad hominems.

Ridley, since you make ad hominem attacks yourself, it is hypocritical to complain when they are directed at you. If you can’t handle the heat, get out of the kitchen!

???

@Aiko_Danuja

You didn’t answer my question though?

Yes, you can make a lot of money doing that.

I have in the past, in return for abuse that has been given to me.

Oh, I can handle the heat just fine. Its just that when I return the abuse I am given, I get escorted out of the kitchen by the bouncer, for a longer period each time.

It sure would be nice if in-game abuse was met with the same treatment.

In fact, this thread could be renamed the “Nerf Abuse Megathread”.

The loss of your mining Gnosis does not justify any changes to the game. You need to take personal responsibility for your mistakes and learn to play better, instead of demanding that everything be made easier for you and more difficult for everyone else.

AFK mining and botting were mentioned in this thread earlier. I was curious, how does one know a player is AFK or a bot before ganking them?

There are several indicators, any of which is pretty conclusive individually. Here’s just 10 of many ways to know:

  1. Are they in an Orca? YES: Bot or Bot aspirant
  2. Are they in a Hulk, Mackinaw, Coveter or Retriever? YES: Bot or Bot aspirant
  3. Do they offer a friendly hello in local when hello is offered? NO: Bot or Bot aspirant
  4. Does a scan show they are anti-tanked? YES: Bot or Bot aspirant
  5. Do they notice when an outlaw is in system? NO: Bot or Bot aspirant
  6. Do they react to a friendly bump from another ship? NO: Bot or bot aspirant
  7. Are they using high yield mining drones (eg. augmented, T2)? YES: Bot bot aspirant
  8. Do they mine for long periods of time (definition of “long time” is variable)? YES: Bot or bot aspirant
  9. Are they in the same system a ganker wants to gank in? YES: Bot or Bot aspirant
  10. Do they have a permit to mine? NO: Bot or Bot aspirant

Simples.

Ah well. The ganks will continue regardless of what you think.

Truth is, is that it’s often difficult to tell players apart from bots, as much of the evidence is often circumstantial. Of course, CCP doesn’t ban players without investigation, so if you seriously suspect a person of botting, you should report them.

  • Don’t respond to conversation- Could be afk, could be semi-afk, could be too busy. However, real players always seem to talk at some point. Botters will almost never talk. Do note, however, they will sometimes be around to talk because they are setting up, winding down, or just checking in to make sure that there are no problems. So, just because they do talk, that doesn’t mean that they’re not a bot. You have to look into the big picture.
  • Long grinding sessions with no breaks- Real players will often have long grinding sessions, but if you pay attention, you can see them take breaks. Of course, do you really want to watch someone for 8 hours to see if they take any breaks? And do note that individual bots will rarely run 24/7. Since it’s such an obvious sign of botting, they’ll typically have multiple sets of bots that run in shifts.
  • Yield Tanking- This is admittedly some weak evidence on it’s own, but botters seem to be particularly prone to fitting a bunch of bling and/or as little tank. I guess being a loot pinata is worth it considering how much of a difference it makes over hours and hours of running. For example, a 10% increase in isk efficiency might not be that big of a deal to someone who grinds for 10 hours a week, but it will add up to a serious chunk of change for a botting operation running 24 hours a day. And, it’s not like they’ll have to grind back their losses. The bot will handle it for them. And, of course, assuming they’ve set up their scripts right, they don’t have to worry about human error (i.e. a bot will automatically and immediately dock up when a neut enters local). Anyway, real players will also yield tank, so take it for what it’s worth.
  • They don’t adapt or respond like any reasonable player would- This is often the best evidence. For example, they’ll do things like slowboat without prop mod the long way through a warp bubble, instead of heading for the nearest edge and warping away. Or a multiboxer bot operation in HS will keep running even after his logi has been ganked.

And do note that multiboxers are not necessarily botters (or input broadcasters). Yes, some multiboxers are cheaters, but most aren’t. And it’s a mistake to assume that you have to cheat in order to control a bunch of accounts. Real multiboxers have developed remarkable execution, and make use of mechanics that reduce inputs required (such as drone assist and autotarget missiles).

And remember, CCP does not ban on player reports alone.

And I accept your grudging capitlation.

Thank you.

Mining gnosiss lol, why not mining revelation like the one I suggested in the gank channel

Lately he’s been using a mining Praxis, now that he’s no longer making “noob mistakes”.

LIsten up. Aiko is a liar and a troll. This is literally all from years ago when CCP was giving out the Gnosis and Praxis as free gifts…not lately as Aiko says…lying again. I was straight alpha and that was the best mining yield I could get. I was new.

I got ganked in low sec. It was the first time I had heard of cynos when I saw one in the overview that they came through. It was a good intro to ganker mentality…blow up your ship for literally no reason…not give you a warning because that would deny them the spectacle of a ship blowing up. Make thin and canned excuses later for what they did. Invite you to join them so they won’t feel lonely in their lameness. Blame YOU for their attack on you. And BTW, understanding ganker mentality is a large part of getting the whole ganker story straight…cause a disproportionate number of them lie like rugs for the purpose of trolling players further.

This is all old, tired and explained. And what Aiko is trying to do is piss me off, cause trolling is all she knows, in game, on the forum and probably also the sweaty teen dude behind the character in his real life.
