Why would I use a tengu to fly what could go into a blockade runner? Not to mention even a cov ops cloak isn’t infallable. You can be unlucky and spawn too close to someone on the gate, or gankers can litter the gate with containers increasing their chance of getting you.

It’s a bannable offence and yet Ice belts are still littered with bots. So I guess that isn’t something CCP has a good handle on punishing and my do well to avoid creating new opportunities for huh…

Seems to be a bit of a theme that you resort to personal attacks instead of reasonable discourse. However someone whose go to response for moving items about is putting half a billion of t3 at risk instead of using the ship literally designed for the job is probably not someone that should be slinging this particular insult. Hell even an Astero would be a better option than a tengu if you wanted better align times.

think we are all fine with the thread being closed.

Some just don’t want to accept defeat and so by requesting such a request to close this thread then it shows that someone is willing to accept the loss on this debate.

It isn’t an excuse for not making changes, just a reason not to make that specific change. CCP are constantly changing things and that will always happen. Some I completely agree with, some in hindsight I agree with and some turn out terrible in my view.

I think that particular suggestion would be terrible, so I hope CCP don’t implement a change like that, but my opinion won’t ultimately sway decisions made by the game designers.

Who will be the last to post before 100 more show up?

Anyway if people were serious about game balance, we’d be talking about the game being reduced to 1 station with all my stuff in and a belt where i mine and sell to npc’s and everyone else sits in local chat. They literally sit in local chat and i can talk about how great the game used to be with them while I mine. Occasionally a few low grade rats will spawn.

Absolutely. How else are new players supposed to learn how to play?

I love the bit in your blog where the guy complains about being ganked while he was on autopilot ‘doing the dishes’. This is the sort of person Lucas is standing up for. Someone who is so into Eve, and obviously such a huge loss to the community, that they’re busy scrubbing pots and pans while their Mammoth gets attacked.

Yep, these people are literally in the other room, not even paying attention to their computer, and the antigankers wring their hands and say “OH WOE THE POOR NEWBROS.”

LOL the tengu is more of a gank magnate than a frig my guy ROFL.

Even more evidence you don’t play LOL.

True. I have my own sneaky hauler fits. It never involves a tengu LOL.

ROFL wut. T3 always attracts attention. Esp in gate camped high sec like Uedama and such.

You’re embarrassing LOL.

ROFL. Whatever semantics helps you sleep at night.

LOL tengus are easily alphaed as well.

And?

My opinion is no better than anyone else’s, for example your own. It’s no worse either. So if a change to benefit new players is proposed that I can see will by far benefit veterans more, then sure I’ll throw my opinion into the mix, like anyone else does and can do, even like yourself, posting the idea to begin with. That’s how forums work.

See Malcanis Law.

If it was brought in for example, I would use it to max advantage in my hauling. I could transport a lot of things with complete immunity to death in highsec that are valuable and small enough to be autopiloted around in a Venture and wouldn’t even need to be sitting in front of my computer. I would personally use a change like that far more effectively than a new player would have the knowledge to do.

Hence, in my view, that would be a terrible change, but CCP aren’t going to be swayed by me.

CCP is not going to listen to Lucas.

No reason to discuss this at all.

This is much the same point I’ve made. Aside from the fact that the cat and mouse of evading gankers is fun and highsec would be boring without it…the knock on effect of removing ganking just to retain a handful of noobs would be huge.

Without highsec ganking there’d be no need for shielded high EHP ships to transport stuff. This would affect the market for all sorts of things. Demand would fall dramatically, which in turn would mean less materials would be needed and all those noob miners would find less demand for their ores. At the other end of the scale, with highsec Orcas now practically invincible with no gankers about…there’d be no demand for new ones…and again a fall in the demand for the very materials being mined.

It’s often claimed that ganking has only a small effect on the economy. However, I suspect that’s nonsense as ganking is not just about the cost of ships ganked but also all the vastly more ships that don’t get ganked yet are fitted with shields, mods, etc in case they do. It’s about behaviour in highsec and which routes are taken and how that also effects the local economy…and so on.

And that’s just the basics of the butterfly effect of altering the ecology of highsec. The overall effect would be a disaster.

To be fair, I mostly play AFK too. Like, I’ll tackle some Goon or PH member on a gate, turn on my guns, and go into the other room to browse the TV guide or mix myself a cocktail or whatever. Then I come back three minutes later, collect the loot, and autopilot back to my home base while tabbed out and playing hentai games on Steam.

If CCP would allow me, I’d automate the tackling part too using some rudimentary OCR and a two-button AHK macro. Being an elite PvPer without even interacting with the game would be great.

I use AutoGRIEF.

It detects new players and immediately targets them for harassment.

Just like all your un backed up opinions are “facts”, or you just don’t have the inclination to justify them because the person you are discussing with is somehow unworthy?

You can say this about any personal attack. Doesn’t make it any less cheap.

What you are missing here is that this is high sec, what matters is lock time and align time. If you can’t get it off the gate before someone insta locks and points you then you aren’t going to survive any better with a tengu than an Astero. You could do it in something with a tonne of hit points, you’d be just as gankable.

Please see earlier where I explained exactly why a tengu or any cov ops is stoppable and add to that T3s make prime ganking targets because their HP to the amount of bling they contain is a favourable ratio for the gankers.

As a side note using tactics like calling someone deluded in a discussion or argument doesn’t strengthen your point. It just makes you seem so unsure of your point that you need to stoop so low.

That’s just not true. Your opinion is based on an occurrence common enough that they named it as a ‘law’. Lucas’s opinion is apparently based on little more than sticking a finger in the wind and saying, “nah I don’t think anyone will abuse that”.

F10 does not tell you who is in the local of the next system

PLus they log in the system if you run SOE missions and warp on top of you before bastion cycles off and you can align because they use an alt to check where you are.
F10 and local and D-scan is all usless.
You have no chances of survival

What, exactly, is a ‘new player’ and what would we be protecting them from?

To me, about the only players who deserve special status due to being new are those who have yet to learn the game’s basic controls and are being tutored in the use of the game’s basic functions. How to move, how to target, and how to shoot. Once they are capable of piloting their craft and choosing what to undock in, they are responsible for their own choices and the consequences to which they lead. They are not entitled to any special protection.

Griefing isn’t a new player issue. It’s an everyone issue. If we give new players special attention in this regard, it would only be because they’re the easiest class of potential victims. However, players who gank, regardless of age, are also subjected to griefing. There is seemingly little or no accountability for those who send messages obviously designed to make people feel bad for shooting someone in a PvP game. Profanity, gas-lighting, threats. It’s all pretty much fair game and one can expect CCP will do nothing about it if you’re being griefed because you ganked.

A person who spends a significant amount of effort for the objective of just making a person feel bad is griefing. Shooting someone because you’re there and you can is not. Anyone should be prepared to lose the ship they undock at any time and probably in the most ‘unfair’ arrangement the enemy can manage. Everyone has access to an unlimited number of free fitted corvettes so there is always a ship that is affordable to undock in in the event it is lost. “Never undock in what you can’t afford to lose” is often cited as the first rule of Eve. It is always possible to follow it.

Teach players the basic controls and the first rule and they are no longer new. If a player follows around another player of any age or in game occupation (including ganking) trying to inflict emotional harm for revenge or satisfaction, they are griefing and should be punished for it.

Certain items. Yes absolutely. It would be the best risk management possible, so absolutely worth doing.
