Nerf Ganking Megathread

I dont remember it being much different with the exception of “mega threads” not being a thing and people having thicker skin, but thats probably either rose tinted glasses and not having been on before 2009.

Its not the moderators fault, they are unpaid volunteers who can only do as directed.

CCP is responsible for not settling arguments they cause.

This thread started exactly like that. The original post is heavy packed with informations about ganking mechanics and how to avoid ganking.

We are where we are because the AG and gank-haters opposed that post and started their propaganda that ganking must be removed from game and that highsec needs to be perfectly safe. Now sure, if the gankers didn’t oppose that practice, I suppose the thread wouldn’t be 6287 posts long, but so what, should we let these trolls spout and spam their nonsense without opposition so they feel like “ok there is no opposition to my idea, it is good idea” ?

Yes, it is indeed. I’m on a mission to bring all the OG terms back.

I am convinced they are the height of internet smack talk and much better than what people use now.

True story. EVE is one of the last actual MMOs where loss can actually matter.

But where loss matters, victories mean that much more.

Most MMOs today feel hollow because loss means nothing. You die and so what? You don’t learn anything. You damn for sure don’t get anything near approaching the shakes.

Ending ganking would end EVE as we know it. Oh it might still go on for a while, but it won’t be EVE.

The day UO turned Trammel on is, is the day it died. Is the official game still going? Yea, kinda.

But see, it never generates the stories anymore. Because there is no risk.

When I first came back to EVE after my long break, I did a bunch of stuff to re-learn the game and just see how things had changed.

One of the best fun? Huffing gas in a WH in a venture, getting chased for 2 hours and making a 50+ jump back from null with 2 mil worth of gas in my hold. I had to use every ounce of skill and meta trickery I knew to stay alive.

Best 2 mil I ever made.

My first death was in a Burst, back when they were the starter Minmatar mining ship. Back then you could attack folks you were in fleet with. I didn’t know this. I didn’t know ANYTHING. A guy asked me if I wanted to go make some isk and invited me to fleet. Surprise! BC vs the little Burst. I ddn’t quit. I just thought, “Well THAT was a bit irritating. I WANT one of those!” They’ve “refined” things since then, but I think these refinements have really limited the fun.

Shame you didn’t get under his guns and teach him a little lesson about tracking speed.

It shouldn’t there are still thousands of systems that PvP available in. By creating a new area, it would attract a new group of people that will help fill up the server. And maybe one day, they will fly into WH, Low, Null and enjoy the PvP part of the game.

JJ

You mentioned games you don’t lose anything in, so yes, the PvP in them is really fun. You buy the game, and you can buy packs in all those games if you want, but you never ever lose it.

If you took the same approach in Eve, you would be broke pretty quickly. And then it would cost you money to buy plex, to trade for isk, to buy ships that again might last an hour might last a year.

This type of all-at-risk game are fun, I am just saying move the risk all to low, wh, null and allow for carebears to do their thing in high.

I truly believe with a little time, 6 months to 1 year we would see players that have had their fill-in high sec and are looking for that next exciting chapter.

JJ

Everyone on the thread needs to go read the MER for this last month and look at the destruction of high-security space. This should end the discussion that high sec ganking keeps the market from imploding. And those numbers are all destruction, so ganking would only be a percentage for the high sec number.

Ganking adds little value to the game; a small group of people that like that gameplay could easily do the same gameplay in low sec.

In conclusion, remove ganking from high sec, open a new world of the game play for new players, and catch up on skills and wealth before they push out into more dangerous places.

JJ

No, no they won’t. And that’s the whole point.

It is a different type of PvP. If loss means nothing, neither does victory LOL.

Only if you’re bad at the game LOL.

Uh double nope. It is quite obvious you have no idea the impact that would have on the game LOL. I’d only support if they capped missions at lvl 2, Abyss tier lvl 1 and could only mine veldspar in high. Then increased the rewards for low, WH and null.

Nope again. You never heard of Trammel huh?

It is the very soul of EVE. If you’re looking to mindlessly farm, I suggest Stardew

JJ,

Do you not realize how asinine this logic is?

The whole game today is one giant PvP zone and still there are people that will never ever “one day, they will fly into WH, Low, Null and enjoy the PvP”.

And on behalf of those people, you are asking for a PvP-free zone. And still trying to convince the less-critically-thinking forum readers that – hey, those new players that join because of the PvP-free zone, they’ll for sure “one day, they will fly into WH, Low, Null and enjoy the PvP”.

What a crock of horse :poop:.

How about “If they don’t enjoy PvP today, they’re not going to enjoy it tomorrow” is separate from “people that don’t like PvP today, want a PvP-free zone tomorrow”. And the answers to both are “this is a PvP game” and “No”.

I see what you deviously did there.

  1. If the destruction in highsec is high…you’d say ’ look at all the destruction gankers are causing in highsec…this just proves they must be destroying lots of noobs’

  2. If the destruction in highsec is low … you say ’ look at how low destruction in highsec is…this just proves ganking has little effect on the economy ’

You’d find a twist to ‘prove’ your narrative whatever the data was .

JJ needs attention now that Lucas and Scip are working on verifiable numbers CCP refuses to give.

You seriously just don’t get it, do you. Let me enlighten you…

I had to transport 500m ISK worth of stuff from a 1.0 trade hub. As it was all high value but low volume stuff, I chose to do so in a well tanked 100K EHP Gnosis. I had fun setting up the ship, and the insta-undock to 250km beforehand. I had fun getting an alt to rile and distract the gankers in Local before undocking. I had fun getting my scout alt to check the route. I had fun when a group in the next system decided to follow me…obviously waiting for me to go to a lower security system on the way. I had fun foiling them by docking in a station before the lower security systems and pretending to log off. I had fun re-emerging 15 minutes later, after they’d gone, and ( after scouting with alt ) continuing on to my home. All of this cat and mouse was FUN !

In your proposed Telletubbie Carebear Highsec…I could have just undocked from the hub in any ship, with no planning, no shields, no alts, no need for insta-undock, no distracting banter with the gankers, no deviously pretending to have logged off, in fact no concerns whatever. It would be BORING !

Comprende ?

Nice.

Nobody is ‘skipping’ anything. They are paying heftily for the skills points. A Large Skill Injector is something like 3 or 4 times the cost of the equivalent period of time in Omega cost.

And seriously, complaining about ‘paying for advantage’ in a universe where one joins with nothing and there are already alliances with trillions of ISK that own vast regions and have utterly massive advantage already is absurd. Eve is not like a game of Monopoly where everyone starts equal and someone would be cheating if they were hiding $200 under the table. It is much more like joining in a game of Monopoly 3/4 of the way through and there are already houses and hotels on every property…and you are whining if someone merely gets an extra ‘get out of jail free’ card or wins too many beauty contests.

It is when you devote 400 posts to it. Why else raise the issue ? Did you purchase a Large Boring People To Death skill pack at some point ?

Then why are people mining in Highsec for twenty years?
