You can buy one plex. Not with real money. With ISK
Yes, that is the issue. You should be able to pay only what you need to pay, without being âluredâ or âgotchaâdâ into buying extra.
These key principles apply to in-game virtual currencies understood as digital representations of value that are purchased with real-world monetary value and then used by consumers to pay a price in exchange for the supply of in-game digital service or content within a video game.
Traders should not engage in practices distorting the economic behavior of consumers by designing video games in ways that force the consumers to spend more real-world money on in-game currency than they need to buy the selected in-game content or services.
This is incorrect, Plex at its core by game mechanics is game time. Its purpose is to be activated to add game time to your account. You have the option should you choose to sell the plex or use it to buy stuff from either player or the NES. That is not something that is required.
If they wanted to try and push the false narrative of it being currency in a court room the easier solution would be to just remove plex pricing from the NES and SKNR stores and just make everything a flat ISK rate instead which i would support. This would still allow players to sell it on the market but at its core would still just be game time that a player decided they didnt want so they are selling.
It WAS game time, back in the days when it could be only used for that, but now itâs a currency.
And trust me CCP does want it to be a currency instead of just game time.
PLEX (Pilotâs License Extension)
- Premium Currency:
- PLEX is a premium currency that can be purchased with real money from the EVE Online store or for ISK on the player market.
- It can be used to upgrade EVE accounts from Alpha to Omega clone states (subscription), which unlocks access to all of EVEâs skills and features.
- Usage:
- PLEX can be used to purchase various services such as character transfers, skill extractors, and cosmetic items.
- It can also be traded on the in-game market for ISK, effectively allowing Capsuleers to convert real money into in-game currency.
- Convenient Storage:
- PLEX can be stored as an item which can be moved around within space or placed securely in the PLEX Vault where it is kept safe and can be shared between characters on the same account.
- On the Market:
- Capsuleers can buy and sell PLEX on the in-game market in exchange for ISK.
- The price of PLEX in ISK fluctuates based on supply and demand across New Eden, similar to real-world commodities.
- In the Economy:
- The ability to trade PLEX for ISK allows Capsuleers to earn the standard ISK currency no matter which kinds of activities they want to devote their time to.
- Conversely, Capsuleers who accumulate large amounts of ISK through various activities can purchase PLEX to pay for their subscriptions and other services without spending real money.
@Sonder_Majus read that last one⌠thats what i was referring to⌠its not a âgotchaâ or âlureâ instead of paying real money for a sub, most people will purchase PLEX in game to pay for their subs
The issue is deeper here.
Leave aside people with bad habits, no feels for them anyway.
But when some crappy money grabbing âMMO gameâ makes millions and billions of dollars from kids and dummies, other developers look at it and what next? Will they work hard to make a good game and maybe make some money out of it? Nope. They will make another crappy money grabbing âgameâ. And this is what happens already.
Real games are one and half in a year while every day we see new âMMO RPG gameâ with anime girls and donationsâŚ
So yeah, iâm in full support for any restrictions on money grabbing in the game industry.
@Geo_Eclipse_Oksaras Well, then you misunderstood my comment. People can trade ISK for PLEX and these EU regulations are not against that mechanic. I was talking about what happens when you convert real life currency (âŹ) into PLEX. What you do with ISK is unrelated to my point.
Pilot's Body Resculpt Certificate
costs 140 PLEX, but there is no way to buy 140 PLEX for real life currency, which in turn âluresâ players to buy 2 x 100 PLEX bundles. Youâre being lured into buying 60 more PLEX than you needed. Thatâs the âgotchaâ Iâm referring too.
Pactices that force consumers to purchase unwanted in-game virtual currency should be avoided
The legal basis for this principle is Articles 5, 8 and 9 of the UCPD.
Traders should not engage in practices distorting the economic behavior of consumers by designing video games in ways that force the consumers to spend more real-world money on in-game currency than they need to buy the selected in-game content or services.
Practices to avoid:
- Offering in-game virtual currencies only in bundles mismatching the value of purchasable in-game digital content and services
- Denying consumers the possibility to choose the specific amount of in-game virtual currency to be purchased
Move CCP headquarters to USA⌠Problem solvedâŚ
They might as well. Game prices are in USD, English required in the general forum, English required in Rookie Help chat, etcâŚ
If a company wants to sell services in EU, they have to follow EU guidelines.
It doesnât matter if the company is based in EU or Iceland or USA, that makes no difference. Same how they have to comply with USA guidelines if they want to sell services in USA: Upcoming Sales Tax Changes for EVE Online Purchases in the USA & Canada
@QuakeGod
P.S. Iceland is not in EU, Game prices are set in Euro and USD, CCP Games have a studio in London, UK, which probably means that English used in general forums would be âBritish Englishâ.
CCPâs HQ is already outside of the EU in Iceland, so moving it to the US wouldnât actually change anything
I am reminded of what my daddy use to tell me. Shoot a man and you get paroled in 3 years, steal his money and it is a hard ten years. This tells you where people place their convictions in this world.
It will be up to CCP and their lawyers to come up with a strategy when the time comes. It could be one of those laws they just ignore. In Chicago waiting on a red light a party of motorcycles out for a cruise blew though the red light. I looked at my husband and said, they wouldnât do that if a cop were here. He said, sure they would, which one of 50 bikes is the cop going to run after? Assuming he jails the one he pulls over, his 49 friends will be down there chipping in for his bail money.
Actually the publisher is in South Korea, Pearl Abyss. The question is, can or will all of Europe block the game? If enough games get censored, then they might be in a pickle, unless they make more cash from North America and Asia.
Have fun!
Technically yes and no. Pearl abyss acquired CCP games, but ccp publishes eve online. Thats why on 3rd party sites, the legalese doesnt say pearl abyss but ccp
That isnât CCPâs HQ, thats PAâs HQ, the publisher/owner being there doesnât change where the company itself is based, and even if you were using the PA HQ, they still arenât part of the EU either so still arenât bound by this
Doubt it, not worth the headache, if they block 1 they have to block them all which is a logistical nightmare
Whoever sells in the EU has to go by their rules.
Look at what happened to Apple and Meta today.
Right but good luck actually enforcing it, you can issue fines but the EU will have no real teeth to collect
Nothing is being banned. ISK doesnât seem to be affected by this regulation.
Although I am not an expert in deciphering legal language, it seems that at least the following two things will have to be done:
- New Eden Store should show prices in both PLEX and local currency (say euros) at the worst rate, without applying any PLEX volume discounts or promotions.
- PLEX must be available for purchase in arbitrary quantities, and not just as packs with a fixed amount of PLEX units. If a player wants to buy 78 PLEX, he should be able to do so.
Greetings
