Only Ratting is a faucet in that list. The other two do not create isk, they only move it.
As if it really matters at this point. ISK faucets, risk less game play, BOTs and AFK players are the reason CCP attacked all miners and all ratters. If miners and ratters should face hate from the game community than so should those lazy risk free ISK farmers that made their wealth and skilled up RISK FREE, with PLEX and SKILL injectors. So if you buy PLEX and SKILL injectors, your a scumbag who is wrecking the game, logic you can trust from the DEVS at CCP.
The thing I find so deeply frustrating about the (sometimes blind) hatred that is often aimed at miners is the way that this ignores some basic truisms:
-
Not everyone who is a miner is constantly cheating ā I have never ever used a 'bot (Iām a Mac user so, unlike on PCs, macros and all that jazz just donāt really work). To be honest though, I donāt really *āgetā the point of them either. I play EVE because I like the game. What on Earth is the point of setting up something to play it for me, so that I donāt have to play the game that I like to play?
-
Not every miner is constantly AFK and disengaged with the game ā As above, I play EVE because I like it. Mining is slow which I actually like because it gives me a chance to chat to people (this is one of the things that draws me to it). This however does mean that sometimes my attention is momentarily elsewhere (B4R, Help channels, general chit chat, or sometimes Project Discovery) but I am, generally speaking, always āinā the game.
.
(I will freely admit to very occasionally [and I do mean very occasionally] being AFK, but the realities of being a parent and having a young child means that he doesnāt always respect my need for EVE time, all the time ā¦) -
EVE needs its miners ā Given that, on a fundamental level, the extraction of ore is what drives EVE (lots of people doing PvP, PvE and/or wars means the inevitable loss of ships, modules etc, and to replace these losses you need ore) without miners, sooner or later EVE would come to a crashing halt.
.
While, up to a point, ALL forms of gameplay are valid (and this even applies to forms of game play that I donāt like, just for the record), miners are now and have always been a core and key part of the economic engine that drives the game.
PLEX ā¦ where do you start?
I donāt have some huge problem with PLEX on principle, but I do think that it has the potential to skew the game in quite a distorted way.
Iām lucky enough to be well off enough in RL to be able to afford an Omega account.
Iām not rich enough (either in time or money terms) however to be able to throw more money at the game (Iām a parent and I work for a small NGO, go figure ā¦) so having a ton of PLEX at my disposal is not really in my reality.
Am I going to lose sleep over this? No, because like I said, I enjoy playing EVE.
Will I find myself economically āout-gunnedā by other players from time to time? Probably.
Will this make me quit EVE? Unlikely.
But youāre just one person, and donāt represent the population at large. Do you know how you play, or how most miners play?
EVE doesnāt need miners, it just needs players to mine.
Well this conversation has completely changed, all I was pointing out that i liked the new masks which CCP gave away FREE and now everybody is talking about PLEX
Yes i know that this stuff is useless and it canāt really be used for anything as we dont have āwalking in stationsā but i think Eve is just not all about Ships in Space and PVP.
I still think āWalking in stationsā would be a great addition to EVE if CCP did it right! but i do know that this will never happen which is a shameā¦
ICP sucks. Faygo is gross.
Fight me space juggalos.
I respect the fact that you feel that there are miners who do play badly ('botting, AFK, et al) and Iām absolutely sure that you are right about this.
Does this extrapolate to mean that the majority of miners play in anti-social ways however? Does this extrapolate to mean that I am unusual amongst miners? Iām not sure that it does to be honest.
If you offered to show me some robust, rather than anecdotal, evidence to prove that this was the case, then Iād genuinely look at it objectively, but I doubt that that will happen or indeed that it even exists.
If that was true, then the reality is that ore production would fall considerably.
This means no more capital ships, no more sub-capitals and things like freighters and other large ships start to become problematic to produce.
Iād fully accept that to facilitate some of the more audacious battles and PvPāing that happens in Eve you need to be skilled and clever and that this takes practice and dedication.
I also happen to think that to be a successful miner, in the face of repeated attempts to gank you, harass you and generally tell you that youāre crap, you need a degree of dedication, as well as quite a lot of spine.
I just donāt think that itās a case of either/or.
I think in order for EVE to be sustainable it needs both predators and prey, PVPāers and miners, saints and sinners.
Itās literally a case on the Yin balancing the Yang. Too much of either is a disaster.
I apologise @Jian_Mira. Youāre right about the thread moving completely off the OP. Iām not going to pursue the thread about PLEX and PvP/Mining any more.
No need to apologies
Hey Ive been gone for the couple of weeks and just missed these. So unfair! I hate the current rewards system, its biased.
Iāve interacted with a lot of miners, and I would say that yes, most of them are like that.
Roll an alt and start āinteractingā with miners, and youāll see exactly what I mean.
Which is exactly what we want.
And if there arenāt enough minerals for fat-cat null-sec powers to have 3,000-titan ti-di ā ā ā ā -fests, wellā¦
There will certainly be enough minerals for everything else.
No, really, go make a wardec or ganking alt (or even better, both). You need to experience this for yourself.
I think the new masks make people look like clowns. I missed my maskā¦ sad Ivicekā¦
Contact me in game and you can have mine.
Calm down, Balos.
What happened here?
ā¦
I like those masks.
Though theyāre not really masks.
Loved that movie. And the whole concept.
Thank you for reminding me of the Lobo - Mask crossover.
I really need to read those comics.
There are some good points made in this thread, actuallyā¦
and yet:
*bows
Virtual space-kabukiā¢ ftw.
More robot style garb please.
I donāt want to be human anymore.
Donāt forget AFK cloaky campers. Zero Risk. Zero Counterplay.
