You should probably be ejected in the direction your Battleship is aligned. It would provide some (small) chance of getting clear of bubbles and tacklers and lets you get yourself pre-aligned to whatever you want to warp off to. CCP is not going to write specific code for each hull to decide which angle aligns with the escape bay, 90 degrees on some, 180 on others, 0 degrees, etc. Sometimes the battleship will have a zero vector, so that kind of calculation wouldn’t be good anyway.
Beserker: 15m Long axis
Ogre: 11m
Praetor: 11m
wasp: 12m
(Gecko: 34m)
Crucifier: 93m
Executioner: 77m
Rifter: 139m
Drones are significantly smaller than frigates.
They’re still huge though.
Of course, an abaddon is more than 10 times larger
(most are between 800m and 1300m on their long axis)
It not really about the length, but height and width.
As some frigates are extremely tall and others extremely width, which would make them almost impossible to eject/launcher from a battleship no matter how huge it is.
Amarr most of their frigates would be fine, i believe the front profile could in most cases fit through the launch bays.
That’s the ships “longest axis” measurement. Which could be width or height. the gecko is 34 wide, for example.
It never is. It is always about the girth…
Couldn’t resist.
Fair points but it is also about the overall mass/volume too. A Heavy at 25m3 may well be long in its axis but at 25m3 it is still significantly smaller than a Frigate with a mass of 5,000m3 or so.
I’m not… entirely… sure what my point is though. Erm…
Oh yeah, downtime on the servers. Ofc.
So here’s a question that probably already has an answer - what happens to the battleship’s drones when you escape in the frigate? Are you able to still connect to them? What about the drones possibly already stocked in the frigate?
When are we going to get Advance Drones so we can control more than just five drones at once without borrowing the swarms of others?
CCP doesnt want us to have more then 5 drones because they dont want to add more load. Hence why they changed carriers and fighters.
Ever took a look at the Guardian Vexor?
Only way i can imagine to start more drones are perhaps dedicated drone boat battleships.
Perhaps another T2 Battleship i mean we are missing the third like a T2 Version of the Hyperion
There’s a quote somewhere along the lines of “Just because we can do a thing does not mean we should do that thing”.
Before I spent too much effort figuring out how and where we could launch more drones, I’d ask “Why does anybody need more drones?”
- Are drone boats too weak?
- Are drone boats not able to AFK/farm with their current drone limit?
- Are drone boats underplayed and need a boost?
- What playstyle requires “needs more drones” to make effective?
Further, since adding more drones translates directly to adding more power, what weakness would you introduce to counter ‘more drone power’?
Need to get back on topic people, this isn’t about drone boats…
…its about frigate bay on battleships.
Yeah changing the subject wasn’t exactly something I had planned, but the question on what happens to the once-existing battleships’ drones did cross my mind.
What I’m assuming is we’ll be able to reconnect to some of them provided the drone bandwidth allows for it, or we’ll just have to scoop up.
That’s what she said.
In theory if you haven’t launched drones from the frigate, and have the bandwidth you should be able to reconnect drones.
Same as current.
As for drone bay or scooping drones, depends on available space
Perhaps the idea is still in it’s infancy and what we see on Sisi is a work in progress. From a programming perspective this is a success…they have been able to code a frigate bay into a battleship and transfer the pod into the frigate upon the battleship destruction and mobilize it in space.
Now they would need to look at loading times for the frigate and its modules once its ejected (perhaps loading could be done whilst battleship is in structure?)
Generally they will have to determine if the frigate will be flung into a small 40km micro jump upon exposion, it looks like this could be coded in at this point.
Here is my idea for the possibility of a successful escape with the frigate, The escape frigate pilot will get warp scrambled and a visual bar will appear with 50% coloured Red and 50% coloured Green, within the bar there is a block moving left to right quickly, the goal would be to press the space bar when the block is within the Green colour in order to achieve a successful warp.
So, I scanned the posts in this thread, didn’t read it all word for word, but I’m not sure this has been mentioned…
I just played around with this on Sisi. If you eject from your Battleship in space, you end up in your escape frigate, not your pod. The carrying BS does NOT need to be destroyed for you to start flying your frig. You can dock back with your BS pretty quickly afterward and go on your merry way.
How is that useful? First thought: scanner frig while you’re in a “safe” spot, likely inside wormholes as has been commonly mentioned.
Second thought: codebreaking frig or any other number of utility modules for sites that need to be cleared first and cracked after. Dangerous letting your ship float unattended next to you in space, but hey, risk vs reward.
I’m sure there’s more that can be thought up if we put some evil minds to the task…
Too bad they won’t let us stuff a gas-huffing prospect in there.
PLEX transporting frigate with 5000 PLEX inside, because real MVPs do it the old fashioned way not through the abomination that is called PLEX Vault.
I am starting to see the potential of this escape frigate. If all of this does get implemented CCP should definitely consider a sort of remote cloaking feature. So one could mobilize their Escape/Codebreaking frigate and then cloak their battleship remotely. This would be a useful feature because it increases the level of activities one can be involved in out in the field without having to dock at a station and change ship.
This feature as I described would be amazing for wh residents and people passing through wh, it would also be great for travelling in shiny ships, one could scout ahead avoid losses.
If you really want to dream, dream of small Upwell structures.
