I’m enthusiastic about Eve and have an idea I believe will add another dimention to the game.
I’m thinking this new module, Signal Jammer, is a highslot item. It will need to work with signal boosters, which are mid-slots.
I propose this module, when active, jams the direction scanner of all ships within the same range as the directional scanner, who have a lower sensor strength than the ship utilizing the new Signal Jammer.
I also propose that all Recon Ships, Electronic Attack Ships and Covert Ops ships (and ships that can use a Cov Ops cloak, like T3’s) be not visible on D-scan to any ship with a lower sensor strength than the ship initiating the scan.
I also propose that D-scan should be able to scan the other side of a Jump Gate. This will solve one of my biggest gripes with the game (getting blobbed by a gate camp) as well as add another level of gameplay and dimention to the game (time to get clever, campers).
These changes give new meaning to the skills which improve ships signal strength vs jamming, they’re suddenly (more) important. Also another interesting utility high module (yay!)
Might also be cool to add the invisible-to-d-scan idea to any ship that has a cloaking device fitted (I’m not sold on this, it’s up to the devs)
This idea isn’t fully fleshed out, I’m sure there’s some refining to be done, but I welcome any thoughts or comments you might have regarding my suggestion.
Hope to hear your thoughts

P.s. If you like this idea, please see my suggestion on improving cap batteries that I posted earlier. I believe they are a little lacking for the power of a mid slot module and I think the idea has real merit (I fleshed the idea out more in my reply).
Might also be cool to add storms to low and null which cause the same kind of interference to D-scan as these modules do. Adds a layer of unpredictability and uncertainty which I’m sure we’ll find fun. (Am I being hunted? Or is it just a trick of the light.)
That’s a very fundamental change to game mechanics which I have quite some reservations about. The lack of “refining” of this proposal leaves me with so many unanswered questions that my response to this can only be summed up by one word:
You realize signal strength is used for more than just resisting jams right? Just want to make sure on that as between this post and your battery post you don’t seem to have the strongest understanding of the games systems
Good you do know glad you understand and we do not need to mess with one of eves most fundamental systems. One of the only systems damn near everyone seems to agree is balanced. Just to give sensor strength more use
ECM is boring and training anti-ECM skills is boring squared.
It’s not just to give sensor strength more use, either.
I think giving sensor strength skills a great deal more meaning than just to prevent the most annoying mechanic in the game is a huge boon, not the point.
The real reason I’m giving is that I think it would be fun.
Particularly if you introduce storms, balancing risk vs reward and calculating the value of things is my favourite thing about Eve.
Also, D-scan is a really powerful tool. From a lore perspective you’d think corporations might see a lot of value in finding some way to disrupt it. Having boring ECM in the game and fun Sensor Jammer not in the game seems counter-intuitive.
Just had a great idea, shroud all the people in local who are within the confines of the sensor jammer, allow yourself and fleetmates to see through your jammer. I’m thinking faction warfare. Sounds FUN. Now those anti-ECM skills are worth a damn.
Risk vs reward.
Intelligence is key.
Now you need a cloaky Loki in key systems providing shade and vision.
And you need to COMMUNICATE!
I just figured out how to scan down and decloak cov-ops providing links and vision.
Scan down the target, bookmark the location, wait a minuite, scan down and bookmark location again. Warp to location 1 and align to location 2 and turn on MWD. You’ll run right into the back of him unless he’s awake. Unless you can’t scan down cloaked ships and I’m mistaken.
This is by design, CCP WANT you to pay for multiple accounts so you can scout ahead. Doing anything interesting on your own is strictly forbidden, unless you pay them extra for it.
