New Pioneer Miner Ship

I am glad they are giving these away for a mission reward. However still no fan of them. Last weekend according to zkillboards over 300 of these were blown up. There was twice as many ventures lost that weekend. However the ISK loss on pioneers was significantly greater than the ventures.

Finally got back to fully playing EVE after my winter break in sunny California. There was a change to alpha skills during this time, making this new pioneer ship now more value to new and alpha players.
2026.01.20.18.10.22

This skill was limited to level 2, now at 3 allows 3 gas scoops increasing your collection by 50%. Using 2 scoops it takes a venture 50 minutes to harvest a full load.

Note: This section was edited for erroneous data, sorry guys!
The same amount (500 units) can be harvested in 34 minutes 67 minutes. The full load a pioneer can hold is 800 units, and will finish in 54 minutes 107 minutes.

Assuming you are willing to risk losing this ship the cost of 3 scoops is about 15 million ISK. The ship is either free with the mission John described above or you can buy one at Jita for 4.4 million. Although I see they are found as low as, 3.5 elsewhere.

Gas prices are down at the current time, but they should rebound by spring of this year.

Gas Price 500 units 800 units
Viridian Myko 100,000 50,000,000 80,000,000
Lime Myko 90,000 45,000,000 72,000,000
Golden Myko 85,000 42,500,000 68,000,000
Amber Myko 75,000 37,500,000 60,000,000
Vermillion Myko 70,000 35,000,000 56,000,000
Azure Myko 40,000 20,000,000 32,000,000

However remember, this ship makes you a bigger target. Gankers will be searching those gas sites using probes to find you. My advice is to work at this only during low server population or when there is an event distracting the other players elsewhere.

Make safes, keep dscan cycling, and leave safety on yellow so you can filament out at the first hint they’re about land on you at one of your safes.

Filaments are no instantaneous escape anymore.

Filaments make you wait forever, 60 seconds I think? The best an alpha miner can do is warp to a saved location and wait 30 seconds for the safe logout. Unless the ganker is running a covert ops ship, they will normally warp in at the site beacon, I try to mine as far away as I can from the beacon.

Have fun!

Sorry to inform you, better check your math. I took a pioneer out to test this just now. They only mine 3 gas units every cycle. Which means it is way slower than the venture at gas mining with the 3 scoops. I get 4 in my venture with 2 scoops. This is because you probably forgot about the 100% yield bonus the venture grants you. The 500 units will take 1 hour and 7 minutes to mine.

Have fun!

Where I mine in low sec (most of the time) doesn’t require dscan at all. I watch local chat, to see if anyone enters the system. When the server gets back up and running here in a few minutes, I will pop into my current system and jump to my safe point. It is over 15 AU from the gate, so any new arrivals will not see me on dscan. They might notice me in local chat, if they pay attention, then they might assume I am docked at a station.

Next I will scan down the new anomalies, not appearing on my list from yesterday. If no gas clouds in the system, I will go mine some kernite for a while. Otherwise I bookmark the cloud and head back to dock to pick up one of my gas mining ventures.

If there is no one in the system, I off load the gas when it reaches 10 million mark, then return to leave the craft mine a full load for the hour. If there are other players in the system, I will stick around and off load gas more frequent. If there is no station, I jetcan the gas at another safe point, then pick it up with my one of my miasmos in dock. Jetcanning at a safe point cannot be tracked by combat probes, so you don’t want to hang in that safe point for long.

Too bad, that sounds interesting.

Ah ■■■■! Yes, I did forget about the 100% bonus. :face_exhaling:

Finally. Someone mentions the DScan limitation of 14.4 AU. Most just overlook that part as if they are trying to pretend that DScan is the solution to everything in Eve.

Obviously dscan range is limited.

But to attack you someone has to get well within that ‘limited’ range of you. And unless the hostile is in a covert ship or one of the few dscan-immune combat recon cruisers this approach can be seen on dscan.

So how would you know if someone is in warp to your location or is trying to find your location with probes well before they arrive on your grid to destroy you?

Dscan.

But feel free not to use this ‘limited’ tool.

Yes I know DScan can see someone within range that isn’t cloaked. I honestly don’t know why you insist on pretending that I’m disputing that fact. I challenge you to find one quote where I said that it can’t see someone within range that isn’t cloaked. I’ll wait.

But it cannot be used to monitor stargates that are out of range or to spot cloaked ships. And you have to be pointed in the direction of any ships in order to spot them (with the cone shaped directional scan).

But please… tell me where I denied its actual purpose and function. You continue to act as if I had.

You act as if you designed DScan the way you come at anyone who comments on its limitations

The Venture is the best ship.
I also use a Venture Consortium Issue. I like it a lot.

Ships go BOOM, that’s what they do.

Promises promises…
Thank you for the warning. That Pioneer ship looks like a whole bunch of wasted time.

That is not what I said or responded to.

What I said was in response to your attitude that you pretend “everyone thinks dscan is the solution to everything in EVE”:

Most veteran players are already aware of the limitations of dscan, but nevertheless see it as a useful tool that can keep them alive when used well.

You, on the other hand, seem out to post flaws about dscans ‘limits’ as if this is new information to us, for some reason that is not immediately obvious from your posts.

But I suspect this reason is you do so as an excuse to yourself for why you play without using dscan, like how you also regularly feel the need to share excuses with us for why you don’t play in null sec.

Please, you don’t need an excuse.

Feel free to play however you like!

(Just stop sharing your excuses with the rest of us).

If you like the Venture Consortium Issue, the Pioneer Consortium issue has a fair bit more yield!

As far as newbie and Alpha-friendly mining ships go the Pioneer and CI version are great!

The Venture is just a little harder to catch, good in dangerous parts of space.

To be honest, a lot of vets in rookie chat ( when I was new here ) told me to hammer dscan. They do tend to act like it will save your life. I have been blown up with or without watching the dscan. When you return to tell them dscan didn’t help a lot, they get defensive, by trying to say you are using it wrong. How can I? It is one button.

While I use it to start a system, I cannot rely on it. I am just finishing the 2nd gas cloud in this system I am mining. I think I used it twice, and if I explode while typing here, no big loss. I made between 112 to 150 million ISK, in the last 4 hours. The real trick is getting back to Jita, but I don’t do selling until April. I have time.

Why do you do that? I’ll ask you directly. Why do you respond anytime I mention DScan? You have a very weird relationship with DScan. When’s the wedding? I’ll clear my calendar and try to attend.

I’m not making excuses. I simply mentioned something abotu the mechanics of DScan.

No, someone ELSE posted about its range. I responded to it.

And wouldn’t it be beneficial for new people if you stopped trying to hide its limitations and discussed way around it?

For instance, you’re wrong about people needing combat scanners to find someone. Unless their inside a signature, you don’t need combat probes. You can simply use DScan while warping around in the direction of your target. I’ve done it. It can be done and you don’t even have to decloak. You also don’t have to come from the direction of the stargates. You can bypass the DScan by first warping to the sun or a planet and triangulating your DScan to pinpoint your target. Then you can close in on them without them even seeing you- or bring in the rest of your fleet if you’re simply the cloaked scout.

If it pisses you off to discuss ways around DScan or the use of combat probes, then you may want to consider couples therapy for you and your favorite scanning tool. :person_shrugging:

Hell, there’s even a module that will protect you from being picked up on DScan.

I’m not making excuses. Just stop. It’s not about you or your wife-to-be. Still a weird relationship, dude.

Seriously- what the hell is wrong with you? If you have an issue with me, find me in game. Keep it off the forums. This is the last time I’m telling you. ■■■■■■■ forum troll.

Honestly, I feel like it’s close to useless for most of the situations new players actually die in. It doesn’t stop gate camps, it doesn’t help when you’re already tackled, and it tells you nothing you can realistically act on fast enough in busy or hostile space. At best it confirms what you already know; at worst it gives a false sense of control while the real danger—bubbles, probes, cloaky hunters, or simple bad positioning—completely ignores it. New players would be better served learning where not to be and when to leave, instead of being told that spamming d-scan is some kind of survival skill.

Seems like a lot but whatever it is, I’m sure there’s medication for it.

14.4 AU: Just enough time to see the axe before it severs head from body.

Congrats on getting out of highsec, but let’s be real, ninja mining lowsec is safer than highsec mining in a brick tanked Skiff. I do it, too, when I run across lowsec gas sites. Once I get over the anxiety of seeing people in local, they’re a nice, stress free vacay from huffing wormhole gas, where there is no local to warn me people are in system. That’s why I stress D-scan.

When you tell people about a good soup recipe, do you explain to them what a pot is? Do you constantly tell people that A comes before B which comes before C, or do you just assume they were taught the simple basics that literally everyone should know? The range limitation of d-scan is the first thing you learn about d-scan, often before you learn there’s a keyboard shortcut for it. If you don’t learn it then, the slider bar labeled “Range“ should give you a clue at literally any point in the future.

We all know that being 14.5AU from anything is as good as a cloaking device 99.9999999% of the time.

Unless they’re in an interceptor or Angels pirate ship, seeing them at 14.4AU gives you several seconds to GTFO. An Interceptor is going to be on grid almost as soon as you register it’s on d-scan, however.

If the pot is something more specific than a standard pot yes. If it needs to be a Dutch oven or a pressure cooker or a croc pot, yes. It’s important. (And yes- there are soup recipes for each of those cooking vessels).

Wouldn’t you explain them if you wanted them to get the recipe right? It’s important don’t you think? You did specify a good soup recipe. Often the best recipes require specific tools. You need to ensure the person with whom you’re sharing the recipe knows about and has the proper tools or you’re wasting their time.

You know- like using a double boiler in order to properly melt chocolate (I know chocolate isn’t primarily used in soups- just an FYI). Special pans and pots need to be explained. Incidentally, a double boiler is actually used in plenty of soup recipes.

I’ve never personally used a double boiler, but I’ve seen them used many times. They’re amazing!

I was taught how to cook when I was in elementary school. I was cooking dinners for the family. One of my chores.
