New Player Experience - Drones will do the job! - Weapons requirement needs tweaking

While doing the career mission “Balancing the books (2/10)”, I felt annoyed and confused by the mission guidance (probably not the technical term - I mean the blue-ish hints that pop up when tracking a mission’s progress. It’s meant to help new players, but in this case it confuses them!)

Specifically, the mission requires killing NPCs, and the guidance system says I need to fit a weapon to my ship. When I undock without one fitted, the mission tracker hint tells me to dock again.

That’s all nice and dandy, but I have 4 effin’ Hobgoblins in my drone bay (and I know how to use them), and they do the job better than any weapon I could reasonably fit to my current ship!

So my question is, why won’t the guidance / tracker recognize drones and stop confusing new players?

(No, I’m not a new player at all. But I hang out around rookie systems trying to help them, and this issue constitutes a major contradiction to Gallente ship design, which often revolves around drones. In my opinion, it’s sending the wrong message to the rookies!)

This issue is present in many other career missions, and it has been around for a loooooooong time now. I believe it’s high time this is being fixed.

It’s a career mission, they’re trying to teach you how to fit a weapon to your ship so you can fight.

Yes, technically drones can fight too, but it couldn’t hurt to also add some weapons to that drone ship. Many drone ships even have weapon bonuses too after all, and all of them have high slots that can be filled.

Your ship can fight without having weapons equipped but this mission requires you to equip a weapon.

But if they do, drones should be recognized and accepted as a weapon.

This is especially important when fitting out a Venture, and also for Gallente ships generally.

Yes they do.
At least 2 of the career missions provided me with Civilian Hobgoblins.
Not sure about the other races, but the Gallente career agents provide not only the drones, but also specifically require using them in at lest one of the missions.

Many career missions teach about weapons and how to fit them.

Drones are weapons too. If you ever did PvP versus a Gallente drone frigate, you’ll agree :0)

They are.

But when a mission asks you to ‘fit a weapon to your ship’ that excludes drones as you cannot fit drones in your weapon slots.

Well, the point is, the mission isn’t requiring the weapon. Just the guidance tool is.
The mission as such can be finished fine with drones only. And because of that, the guidance should not require a weapon.

Drones are not considered “charges or weapons” in eve. Drones are drones. Weapon means whatever will fit in a high slot. You cant put a drone on the ship as a mod. There are mods for drones, but the mission is teaching how to FIT A weapon MOD to the ship
