Actually they didn’t say that. They said it kills of corporations, which was kinda the point of wars. The predicted increase in players (by the carebears and old CCP) to this change never happened.
What happened instead was the rise of toxic wardec immune corps that lure new players in and drain them like farm animals, things we could previously suppress by killing the corp and freeing the trapped newbros.
I would not be surprised if we see some changes around this in the future now that they kinda get back on track with whats good for the game.
