Overview settings for multiple characters

I have each of my accounts start up with each own settings from Launcher, to minimize the errors with settings.

However lately I have huge issues with Overview settings between characters. I save a Null Sec setting and High Sec alts Overview breaks (goes Null Sec functionality). I make a new tab for Null Sec with a different name to try separate them, but suddenly other characters have a whole new window with multiple tabs, and the High Sec tab in High Sec has also been deleted and the Null Sec tab inserted.

That sounds annoying!

So if I understand correctly you use different launcher profiles per account.

And when you change settings on one character it also creates unwanted setting changes to another character.

Are such a high sec character and null sec character on the same account? No need to share that information, but besides 3 character settings files there also is an account-wide settings files shared between the three characters on an account. That could be the problem here.

To solve that problem you could switch between launcher profiles when you log in either your NS or your HS character, because each launcher profile will have it’s own folder with it’s own separate isolated settings files, one for the account and three for the characters.

So you could use your HS profile to log in character A from account 1, and your NS profile to log in character B from account 1. That should keep their settings completely separated.

whilat i am not a user of it, ive heard about this app and may be what you need - GitHub - mintnick/eve-settings-manager: EVE Online Settings Manager

Yes.

The accounts are separated by the different settings profiles.

But 3 characters per account share the same profile since the profile is set per account when starting the game (unless exiting the game completely, and relaunching account with a different profile when changing character).

No, that copies settings over, while it can be useful for initial setting up accounts, the problem here is the characters MUST have different settings. They do different things and their Overview MUST show different things.

That seems to be the problem then!

For me it’s a blessing because I try to keep the UI of my characters the exact same.

But in your case you wish for two characters on the same account to have different account settings, so then you will have to switch between characters via the launcher and switch profiles, because switching to the character log-in screen keeps you within the NS profile for your HS alt or the other way around.

I can imagine that going to the launcher and switching profiles is annoying though.

There may be a good solution, but I have never done much with the launcher groups before: couldn’t you make one launcher group for HS characters all with HS profile settings and another launcher group for the NS characters?

That might be worth looking into.

If that works as I expect it does you still need to quit the game entirely to swap between your HS and NS characters but at least you can start all of your HS or all your NS characters with the right profile settings with a single click.

Yeah, this is just moronic however.

This settings error is clearly something CCP needs to undo.

I just gave it a try, launch groups are perfect for your use-case:

It allows you to have a single button that launches all of your HS characters with your HS profiles and another button that launches your NS characters with your NS profiles.

No, Character Select is perfect for my use case.

Having to quit the game in order to load new setting files when swapping characters is completely retarded.

I agree.

But for someone who wishes to use groups of characters with different profiles on the same accounts like you, launch groups are the workaround CCP has designed.

Breaking a working design, is not making a design.

Okay, but has this ever been a working design before?

As far as I know there always had been account-wide profile files so you could never switch between characters while also swapping profiles. In fact swapping characters without logging out is only a new thing of a few years ago.

It has always been account wide, but my characters dont even use the same Overview presets, the needed data used to be stored per character.

Hence the need for people to use programs like the one mentioned above to make automatic overwrites, if actually wanting that.
