Got asked in-game how I trained up so fast. Fair question, so here’s the honest answer: I’m a returning vet, played the conventional way years back, joined corps, followed the cookie-cutter roadmaps, ground out skill queues and ISK the slow way. It cost me huge amounts of time and money, and I could never actually specialize, because every choice meant trading off something else I needed. Getting blown up after hours of grinding isn’t character building, it’s just fatigue.
This time around I asked myself, if I could buy back all that wasted time, would I? Yes, instantly. So I did. Bought PLEX, converted to skill injectors and books, filled in exactly the skills I wanted maxed, no drama. That’s not dishonorable, it’s just recognizing the game already runs on a pay-to-progress model whether you admit it or not. I’d rather spend money once and actually play the game I want, than spend months not playing it at all.
One could wonder what you’re hiding by not continuing to play with your old skilled character, and what happened in the past to make you decide to spend a lot more money to start fresh instead.
You talk about honesty and no drama, but a fresh character with lots of SP has some smells.
Hm… I found it as a waste… injected skils into character are not equal injected skills into layer between chair and keyboard… and injected skills creates a gap between character and a thingy which is sitting in front of the keyboard.

The errors in the SP expenditure itself does offer a glimpse of humorous nuance, but apart from that, the subject matter just isn’t edgy or interesting in contemporary Eve.
It’s not dishonorable, it’s just bad financial responsibility… and no one really cares about that either. You threw away money, I’m not affected. It’s only a game.
Some of the usual suspects treat Eve like some kind of divine intelligence/character building test. It’s a freaking game folks. A flawed one at that. If someone who played years before (and who already knows the mechanics) chooses to bypass the grind this time around by using a totally legal in-game way to bypass that grind again, who are we to judge.
Some people’s time and sanity are worth more than the opinions of certain forum warriors.
It all depends on what it is that you value and how good one is at this game. You can play EVE on a low-skilled character and still enjoy it to the full. How many SP one has is not a limit to how much enjoyment one derives from the game. There is no proportional relationship between the two.
Me personally, I’ve never injected SP outside the free SP Fenris gives out. My main reason is that when you just buy the SP instead of working (waiting) for them to be trained, it will make you value them less. Same with buying PLEX and using it to buy ‘valuables’ in the game. When the ISK comes directly from your wallet, then the goods you get from it are meaningless. However, when the ISK comes through game play you participated in, then you will be a lot more careful about what it is you spend it on and usually put it to better use than the no-effort income/windfall money.
Everything I own in the game is thanks to my own game play. Not through spending real money. However much it is that I have it is thus meanigful. I wouldn’t be able to say the same if I had just bought my way into my net worth.
I have purchased skill injectors, however I am an alpha, and that is about one of the best ways to get from level 5 to level 20. After 5 million ( level 5 ) the auto leveling stops and you will either use injectors or feed off the dailies and events.
I am satisfied with level 5 for mining and basic PvE. I imagine a level 20 alpha is a lot more diverse.

2648 dollar for a 108 million SP char is a fair price to pay imo. I understand some people feel like grinding for it is more fun but I already did this and I burned out sitting in the belts for hours and hours every day and I remember one time when a lost yet another Dominix crying and getting depressed from this way of gaming. Now I just throw some cash at it and can have more quality time. For people that can’t afford paying or when they like to earn their ISK that is cool too, I am just thankful that this game let’s players choose grind or pay. Another small gripe would be when you are in an alliance they tell you what you need to train for fleet doctrines and I like experimenting with certain fits.
Well I spent ISK getting those injectors, I made my ISK by mining in LS. I suppose there is nothing wrong with spending the cash, as long as you have it, and you are having fun too.
Whether that’s in a real-life job or mining in a belt in-game. Sure, in-game means more people in space doing things to make beautiful explosions, but the reality is the same. You are ultimately trading your life’s “real” time on something. The way you want to spend your “real” time is up to the person; the end result is the same.
Yes, there are purists who will say that is cheating or whatever. We used to have a wallet warrior in our corp who regularly whelped expensive fits and pods. For them, it was fun to do so, and that was their form of gameplay and downtime from real-life seriousness.
Not only does in-game and out-of-game spending of time influence Eve; we need to realize that supporting FC by credit card and playing in-game, or by paying for things with out-of-game activities, does the same thing. Whether we ‘like’ it or not, they are supporting our favourite game in their own ways… let them!

Aside from that, what makes this any of your business? If someone has the cash and wherewithal to spend on the game to avoid the grind who are you to judge?

There really a subset of rich guys IRL who swipe that Visa like its the thing to do. I watched a guy spend 2000 dollars and give it all to his CEO to pop cits down in a new null area lol. I watched a rich kid spend 500 on a ship just have someone outside Jita convince him to… Test the DPS.

Ive met many trillionaires in game too and guess what the common thread was? Rich IRL and swiping that VISA. Making real ISK in this game is almost impossible at scale unless you swipe or happen to be one of the very few helping to make the rules. Hell, most backdoor deals for cheaper than market PLEX is usually just one guy from the alliance swiping that VISA for email plex discounts right from CCP which he then sells to his alliance.
Whats that? you wanna be rich too? Just watch in game stores for sales like x2 extractors for the price of 1… Swipe Visa and deals between NES and Market. thats the new way. Its doubles your ISK for real money if you follow the system CCP created.

2. Sell in game for twice as much if you let the markets correct a little.
Dont be the idiot rich guy who buys 5000PLEX in the store and then logs in game to place it all in one heap on the NPC station trade hub… idiotic. At least sell it to me in the trade cit in peri ffs with zero tax.
Everyone wants the flashy skills first, the big guns, the titans, the fancy ships. But here’s the secret nobody tells new players. If you want to actually get rich in this game, train Accounting and Broker Relations to level five before almost anything else.
Every single time you buy or sell on the market, CCP takes a cut, sales tax on the way out, broker fees on the way in. Untrained, you’re bleeding a chunk of every transaction straight into the void. Multiply that by every ship, every module, every skill injector you’ll ever trade over your whole EVE career, and that’s real wealth you’re just giving away for free.
Two skill books, one modest chunk of skill points, and suddenly you’re keeping more of everything you touch, forever. It’s the most boring investment in the game and also the highest return one. Train it once, profit from it every single day after.
And if you really want to squeeze every drop out of this, don’t even use your main. Roll a trading alt through a referral link, that gets you a free chunk of starter skill points right out of the gate, throw a couple of cheap skill injectors at it, and train Trade, Accounting, and Broker Relations to five on that character alone. Now every single trade you ever make runs through the cheapest possible tax rate, forever, without touching your main’s skill plan at all.
If you want to be an alliance slave you go for it..
But there are corps out there that don’t dictate what you can fly or fit and you can experiment to your hearts content.
For those thinking $2.6k is a lot to spend in game have a look at the Whales and Krakens in Raid Shadow Legends where whales spend hundreds of thousands of $$'s.
Some Krakens have spent over $1m in game, yes, over 1 million $$'s on a gatcha game just to get and level to the max every new Legendary/Mythical that is released.
