had a little google of pearl abyss financials… seems to a few posts about the ingame economy so i found this interesting as it is directly relevant to what is going on with PLEX Online Sponsored by Visa.
im no financial guru but i wouldn’t say that pearl abyss is making that much money tbh the chart is kinda telling and kinda explains the sales… always hungry for money.
if someone is accountant maybe could give us a brief rundown on what these statements show in regards to PLEX online Sponsored By Visa longevity…
I did find interesting that the numbers decrease from 2021 to 2023 but I couldn’t tell if they represented overall revenue, quarter profits or the amount of flour I need to put in my dough.
I didn’t understand anything from those links. I felt stupid so I closed the page.
I’d like to know, too.
lol, It would be amazing if someone could tell just by looking at a bunch of numbers.
I wouldn’t know either, however I do know that CCP has been investing into several new games. (Frontiers has outside investment so not touching that one). Vanguard and Galaxy Conquest both require new hirings and start up costs, on top of the normal operating and development costs. Usually growth like this shows that the company is doing well. With Galaxy Conquest releasing next week, I would expect that CCP would be gaining an influx of money from the Mobile game market. Time will tell though.
You would generally find commentary by googling something like “EVE Online CCP Pearl Abyss financial statements (year)”.
As an observation, since around 2012 or so iirc, CCP has fluctuated between profitable/unprofitable years fairly regularly, with quite a bit of the variation being due to oddball accounting issues. So it’s not usually cut and dried.
Also, while many people blame Pearl Abyss for everything they don’t like about EVE and monetization, in reality CCP is doing nothing they didn’t already start down the road on prior to the Pearl Abyss buyout. CCP is a business - it’s their job to make a profit; and that job has gotten harder over the years as 3/4 of their player base have left them behind.
Personally I’m more likely to criticize CCP for not making more money (in ways that fit the game), or for screwing up on their attempts to make more, than for trying to make money in the first place. The main problem is they usually wait until things look desperate, then they slap in some last-minute cash grab that looks kinda cheesy.
No one said you were, but you personally go on and on about this a lot.
Like loads.
Have you considered taking aim at Niantic?
In Pokémon Go, they regularly put items on “sale” but the “sale” price is literally just the normal price, with another price equal to the normal price plus whatever the discounted percentage is, is placed above the sale price with a line through it, but they never sell items at the struck out price. That’s arguably more scummy than checks notes selling an in-game currency (which they also do)

Next week? I have it on my phone since few months.
It’s a clone game (I played VERY similar ones) with no relation to Eve except for ship names. I don’t expect it to be successful - it got me bored after 2 weeks despite the fact that I enjoy other games based on the same mechanics.
It is my opinion, these small games are being snatched up as tax shelters. Embracer Group has been buying and selling game companies and losing money. Embracer bought up Gear Box for about 1.4 B and sold it for 0.4 B a major loss of 1 billion dollars. Pearl Abyss bought this game at a loss, they continue to support it at a loss. The only way any business can operate in the red would be a tax shelter, or the Korean government has some perks for the loss. I don’t know everything the Korean government offers as programs to big business.
For example; Ewe Boll a German film maker has produced flop movies at a loss. He took advantage of a German tax laws and juggled finances. He made money and the people who funded the movie take the loss. This is just one known example of how an entity can make money by creative investments. Mel Brooks sort of exposed such hijinks long ago in his movie “The Producers”.
I am not picking on PA or calling their acts criminal. I am pointing out there are a lot of conglomerates grabbing some very questionable studios, keeping them funded, and selling at a loss. I don’t worry about thing outside my sphere of influence.
