I just produced my Perseverance, and went out testing it…
I had only one Crits in my first room, and there was low enough people that I got my load almost uninterrupted… that changed when things got more busy…
Every Endurance on grid was coming for my Asteroids and I was constantly losing all of the mining
to the Endurances…
Their 50 sec cycle vs my 62sec cycles has killed my Asteroids multiple times, leaving me with Zero Ice… Even I f I had already started mining an Asteroid with 3 units left with allof three of my ICE miners on the same asteroids, one single Endurance would OUTMINE me completely and leave me with ZERO Ice at the End of the Cycle.
Whats’ worst, is tha mt Miners didn’t shut down immediately when the Asteroids got slurped, and kept running untill their cycle finished, and having three of them, I often didn’t know which one I had to shut down before it was too late and try redirect it on another Ice Asteroid…
So, the UI needs an overall upgrade OR the way the Ice miners works needs an upgrade…
In both cases, having 50% Crits bonus is GREAT IF there is also a 50% Cycle time bonus…
So instead of 182 secs per ICE miners we would get something like 135secs… or 15 secs LESS than the Endurance sub 50 sec per cycle
Or just Give the Perseverance 50 Sec per cycle like the Endurance… and give him the same Crits bonuses of the Endurance… which to me seemed to be the same if not higher playing today…
To the judges the final verdict…
PS: It wasn’t all bad. I had a good experience when uncontested… but in ICE mining…
this is almost never the case… Sub 4 sec alignment is great… but so is the Endurance…
Sure, let’s compare a mining destroyer that takes 1 level 4 skill to fly to an expedition frigate that takes 3 skills at level 5 to fly. What a meaningful comparison.
Of course the Endurance is better than the Perseverance. It should be for the amount of time someone has to invest into flying it.
That’s the problem in a way… I also talked about it in the video essay (!)
I have all Lv5 skills for the Perseverance and Expedition only to 4… that mean the Endurance can get even better…
There are no other Skills for the Perseverance (and the other Mining Destroyers) to train other than the Mining Destroyer Skill. The Outrider Mines “Less x aamt” x miner but has the short cycle
time.
That makes it competitive. All other Destroyers are in fact short cycled and competitive enough.
The Perseverance has the cycle time of the Covetor and Retriever…
Each miner has 182 sec cycle, not 62 sec…
182 divided by 3 miner is roughly 60.666 sec I think…
This is for the mining AVERAGE calculation…
Sometimes a barge isn’t a good option, and an Endurance takes a lot of skills.
The only problem I see presented in this thread is your insistence that this new T1 destroyer somehow be this magical ice mining powerhouse that puts everything else to shame.
Perseverance only gets better average yield than Endurance if the ships have mining boosts, otherwise it’s worse.
It has low base yield but the crit bonuses can make up for it, which requires you to maximize your crit yield and chance with skills, modules and mining boosts.
It’s more than that…
The T1 Destroyers can make COVETOR/RETRIEVER/SKIFF obsolete…
PERSEVERANCE is a HYBRID, that do not INSTA-OBSOLETE all of the Above…
The prblem with this option is that it is just “bad” in the way it tries to differentiate itself
All Mining Destroyers have fast Mining Cycles… Except the Perseverance…
And the DO NOT OBSOLETE the BARGES PLEASE argument is the only thing I can think of
as of why…
Fleet Boosts do not have preferences…
they do apply equally to all members of the fleet…
Outrider-Endurance combo is amazing demonstration of it.
Fast cycles is like a DPS race.
Perseverance has no chances to get around that.
No Fleet boosts will save him.
Nut on an Asteroid of 7 units, you PRE-ALLOCATE say 1 unit to your 182s cycle…
There are 6 Left, 2 Endurances pop in and sloops up 6 Uu BEFORE you even have finished your cycle… There is now only your PRE-ALLOCATED LEFT…
You already lost all chances of getting a CRIT on that Asteroid…
Have to look for another Asteroid…
But on that one there are 6 Endurances and only 1 Uu left…
I get to “lock on” and start my cycle BEFORE any of those 6…
Instead of a Battle for who’s FASTER now it’s just a “Range” battle first…
It’s a good idea but I see lots of problems with it…
What you however miss is that crit bonuses work different. Crit bonuses are far more valuable if you already have other crit bonuses from your ship.
The Perseverance has a lot of crit yield and chance bonuses. Improving crit further with command bursts adds a lot more yield to the Perseverance than to other ships like the Endurance.
Fleet boosts do save the Perseverance.
For numbers comparing Endurance and Perseverance, please look at this reddit comment I made earlier:
I understand that low cost T1 destroyers fleets, have a lower skill/isk cost investment
to get some small mining OP going, and can easily replace old Covetor/Retriever in high risk areas where they can micro-jump out in sub 3 secs…
Obviously Hulks & Co. have much more stable output etc, but the point is still valid.
They are all gonna be useful in some way, and they are not weak at all…
You’re wrong about that, because boosts do benefit the Perseverance more than the Endurance.
Crit boosts are significantly stronger if the ship already has good crit yield and chance.
So while regular mining yield boosts affect the Perseverance and Endurance equally, crit mining boosts will benefit the high crits of the Perseverance much more and push the ship ahead of the Endurance.
The Perseverance can even get up to 18% more average yield than the Endurance when you maximize crits from Rorqual boosts and abyssal mining equipment.
Yet without boosts the Perseverance has worse yield than the Endurance.
If you think I’m wrong please simulate it for yourself or do your own calculations and share your conclusion.
