I was wondering (genuinely, I’m not a troll!) about the changes to the PLEX market.
I’m not terribly clever so can only ask from the perspective of someone who might want to purchase PLEX on the market, but could CCP not simply add a new sell order range (based from number of jumps to server-wide) and apply this to all existing PLEX sell orders, then cancel all buy orders and automatically reimburse those who placed them?
Or was this what was already done and I’m a huge moron?
I’m genuinely curious as to what went on behind the scenes from a programming perspective. It’s fascinating!
Been reading that blog. Lots of words but no material there. Still appears the users will drive the prices sold in the market. You just won’t go to some cheaper region and buy up a ton of plex to sell it for 25% higher in another region elsewhere.
As the change is now in, what they did it is make a special PLEX market, but integrate it into the same GUI. For user friendlyness, this is actually a neat way of doing it, and CCP will hopefully not feel a need to spam us with splash screens to try create awareness about the PLEX market.
The simplified version is: Any PLEX orders you had were cancelled, make new ones and you are set.
More detailed. PLEX buy and sell orders are available on all regional markets in the usual GUI window now, this gives PLEX the same price and stock everywhere. This makes it simpler for people who haven’t bothered make a Jita alt, or are too stupid to understand the prize can be different in Jita and their staging system. Players can still enter the price themselves, and as such CCP is still only indirectly controlling the price (through game changes / PLEX sales).
While it is now simplified to 1 PLEX price in Eve Online*. Market will not automatic adjust to spikes and such my guess is we will see larger spikes happening than fx on WoW Tokens. But that last step is probably how CCP will deal with the issues stupid people will have with order fees, and make PLEX use the exact same mechanic as Blizzard (who copied the PLEX P2W<->Gametime mechanic some years ago, so far as the only one I know to copy it so exact).
The market spread has already collapsed to less than the fees to make buy orders, so there is no buy and sell cost difference for buyers. Guess CCP needs a way to simplify this so stupid people don’t get confused and waste money on buy orders at wrong times.
