Right? Like there really isn’t even all that much mining left in the high security zones in Solitude. Most of it has moved to lowsec. The squabbling over the moons right now is fairly fierce.
Solitude changes daily and those of us that truly live in the area would like it to stay the way it is if we need to access other regions then we take our chances just like everyone
As the news about events over stargates is being pushed again, I want this thread to serve as a reminder to CCP to do as much as possible to not harm the unique ecosystem that Solitude has.
Let it be something that can be fought over, as to whether it happens or not. And let the fighting take place in systems that not only make sense for the event, but would work to the advantage of keeping the ecosystem alive, such as the one I mentioned at the top of my OP.
I mentioned this in another thread in the fiction portal, but just to be consistent, I’ll mention it here as to why if there has to be a new gate, why the Kenninck and Babirmoult systems would work best for it.
Kenninck in Placid is far enough away from high-sec that it would be the best option for players to have to traverse “unsafe” space in order to reach the region. For the lorewise concerns of baseliner (NPC) pilots, the Ganoure constellation which Kenninck is in is garrisoned by both the Federation Navy and CONCORD. I’m aware that the latter exists more for the benefit of capsuleers (players), but that extra feeling of security can help.
Babirmoult in Solitude is just close enough on the map to make sense, with the bonus effect of being able to avoid the Trace Cosmos down south, and any instability that could come from establishing gates over there. This system is tied for having the second-most belts in the entire region, which could imply that the NPC corp living there, Material Acquisition, probably has lots of unseen infrastructure there. A lot of their high-ranking agents for that corp reside in the system, with the implication that MA probably consider it a very important system on that merit. And considering that MA is the mining division of Quafe, a huge Gallente megacorp, I have no doubt that Quafe could reasonably want to provide funding for such an undertaking.
Basically a reiteration of what I said before, but since this thing is basically confirmed at this point, please make it so that Solitude residents have the chance to fight over whether they want a gate or not, and please consider using those two systems for the purpose of, if the stargate does end up being constructed, not harming the unique and fragile ecosystem that exists in the region already. Don’t turn it in to just another empire region.
If they aren’t listening to negative sentiment about their plans in general, what makes you think they’d listen to you?
At one point I tried to live out in Solitude. I liked it, except for the never-ending wardec spam from one now defunct pirate group. Basically never got anything done due to that and lacking a properly equipped ship for combat vs wardeccers (due to solitude’s, well, solitude) so I eventually left back to the wormhole from which I came. I still got a few cheap ships out there.
I don’t know if they’re listening to me or not. I don’t have a direct line to them or anything. There’s no shot that they’d do it in the way I feel is correct if I don’t post it somewhere, though.
I’ve written posts that are pretty much essays outside of the OP on the sentiment. It doesn’t really take that much effort for me to get my thoughts out. I don’t feel that my time is being wasted doing this if I try to get the information out.
They already said they are adding 6 new routes into solitude. TIme to adjust.
OK, this is no longer an uncertainty. We better begin organizing now. Note the paragraph about new gate connections driven by player input. I am extremely concerned.
They said 6 new CCP gates to solitude and potentialy dozens more from players. It was one of the targets for massive player influx.
You’ve said this twice now. Do you have a source or…
Yeah, no. Unless you have some source I haven’t heard of, no one currently knows where this gate is supposed to be, or even if there’s more than one.
Feels very troll, but I’ll eat my words and be really sad if he does have a legit source.
Ill look it up tomorrow. It was notes from a CSM meeting and a few other posts gathered by CCP and other player reps.
They are in a map redrawing phase with pochven and the like and I guess solitude was targetted as risk free farming and put on radar for a redraw.
Anyone who thinks Solitude is “risk-free” anything obviously hasn’t lived here.
Anyone that thinks that Solitude is risk free hasn’t been to Sarline, or Vevelonel, Kingdom of the Worm threatens pretty much everything in Orvanne, from the highsec parts with their suicide ganking to the lowsec triangle. Murderers Inc notoriously camps the pipe that leads to Mobrault. And sure, some of the more open-ended lowsec is safe, but that could be said for pretty much every region. Metropolis lowsec for instance, outside of systems like Floseswin, most of the FW systems are barren except for plexers.
That’s not even mentioning the couple of times White Sky decides to roam around Elerelle. I’ve lost a ship to them in Hare once when they decided to roll up.
And I guess I should clarify because I mentioned in my OP that I occasionally left Solitude because I got bored. Yes, there was relatively low player interaction with what I was doing, and where I was. But that’s part of the nature of my profession too. The same thing happened to me in Derelik, Lonetrek, Metropolis, etc. and I don’t think anyone would call Metropolis a risk-free region.
I agree with this and the main thrust of the OP’s argument. I like isolated regions of hi-sec space, especially the ones that require going through lo-sec to get to. They feel much more peaceful.
That is not in CCP Hilmars vision. Removal of highsec over time is.
Confirmation?
Confirmation from where? Tell us this does us no good unless we know where you got it.
