Question About the Clones

My character gets blown up and/or freezes in space as her memories are passed off to her next clone. However I notice many other characters retain scars. Why would your new cloned body have these scars? I told my grand daughter, some people have piercings and there are tribal scars that are akin to tattoos in some cultures. We are not born with battle scars.

Some may say, their character replaces battle scars on the clone, because they earned them. In all reality these are now fake battle scars, it is not the original, and after some time, it would seem your character would look like Frankenstein’s monster. Maybe I am just too vain to comprehend that train of thought.

I am of the opinion, if it was my clone, I would want a clean copy and preserve the age at about mid to early 20’s. I notice a lot of older avatars here and in the game. There is even a weird Eve spoof commercial discussing age. It would seem when you get cloned, you could pick the age of your clone as well. I would think most of the capsuleers would look young and healthy and less like a senior citizen. Once more, if this is done out of respect for one’s true age, there would be a lot of pruned zombies in those pods.

Those are my thoughts about the fictional cloning process. Freely discuss it, Today I am wishing, I had a clone in real life to send off to dialysis instead of me.

Have fun!

Scars are clearly an affectation, cosmetic, applied to all ones clones.

The issue with picking a clone age in the 20s is that you’re going to look very young. I look younger than my age IRL, and being taken seriously is often a problem, it would be the same in New Eden. Additionally, some cultures (namely the Amarr) venerate age, and will even sometimes use makeup to appear older than they actually are. An Amarrian capsuleer is unlikely to choose to look younger than 40.

And yes, preserving scars in your clones is an aesthetic choice, just like tattoos or piercings. Maybe you got that cheek scar defending your sibling from bullies in your youth, and keeping it is a matter of honour? Maybe you lost an eye fighting Templis Dragonaurs before you managed to get into Caille U’s Pod Pilot Programme, and you decide to keep this injury out of respect for your comrades, who lost even more?

I do find it odd how few Minmatar pilots are tattooed though. The Voluval is an extremely important ritual to the Minmatar, and it’s perplexing how few matari empyreans seem to value their marks enough to reproduce them in their new bodies.

I was the person who suggested our clones get an age feature, and I am very happy CCP implemented it. Thank you! For a long time we did not have this option.

I don’t see why age has to be a problem here. It’s an aesthetic thing only for capsuleers. You might prefer 20-something look, but I don’t. I’m not a child and I don’t want my characters to look like juvenile brats either. Men are most sexy in their 40s and 50s. It’s not an ‘unhealthy’ look as one might conclude from your train of thought there. Men in their 40s and 50s are at the peak of their physical prowess and health. It’s complete nonsense and mass-produced thinking to imply that only young people look good and are healthy. Come on! What a load of nonsense.

Easy. It’s a choice to keep it as a memory of what happened. Some people do that in RL even when a scar can get fixed with plastic surgery.

To be clear, I am not suggesting that anything be removed from this game. I am simply pondering why anyone would take a blank canvas and tear it up before painting on it.

I am not a child, but why would one turn down the legitimate “Fountain of Youth”? Ageism is a problem with today’s society, nobody knows what will be a basis for the new discrimination in the distant future? Maybe they would look down on those without cybernetics? I know in the here and now, if we had the tech to transfer memory to a new clone, most people would keep them youthful.

Have fun!

Because not everybody sees that as the ideal to pursue.

Honestly, I am surprised seeing this attitute coming from you. I thought you were more mature in character and outlook on life.

Even when I was in my 20s I found men in their 40s and 50s most beautiful and attractive. It has been a constant in my life. I’ve known a number of men throughout my life who were in their 50s and they always consistently stood out to me with their beauty, integrity, and strength of mind and body. This is in stark contrast with younger men, most of whom don’t exhibit such traits.

The man I love is in his 50s and he’s the most beautiful and amazing guy on this planet. I wouldn’t ever want a 20-something in his place (say I had a choice on an abstract level). As a person ages, he acquires these ‘layers’ on him of everything that has happened and how he has handled the situations in life, and that, also, adds to the appeal of older men. If they don’t let themselves go physically they also have the most powerful and breathtaking bodies of all. They’re simply irresistible.

The ‘ideal’ of youth is the most misguided and silly approach to life.

I know what you mean. The passage of time seemingly stopped for me in my late teens for 10+ years, so that by the time I was 30, people thought I was still 20! I found that extremely annoying, because mentally I had moved on. I still look 10 years younger today, but people who know me tell me that even though I look younger it’s obvious from the way I behave that I am older. So, at least there’s that.

Age is a choice for new eden capsuleers. The programs and paths to becoming a capsuleer are clearly outlined, and the physical requirements alone indicate that only younger folks are becoming capsuleers.

New Eden has access to significantly better anti-aging treatments than we do. Amarrian emperors regularly rule for hundreds of years. It’s not inconceivable that someone wealthy (ie most capsuleer candidates) would be able to remain quite physically fit well into what we would consider advanced age.

Perhaps it’s that:
”In the case of the voluval a similar level of cellular alteration is replicated but the cellular structures are essentially artifical and the replication is an artifice of the clone preparation process. While the mark is to visual inspection identical to the original, there are basic differences that can detected with the correct equipment.”
so many capsuleers feel that as it only looks like a voluval there is no point in “keeping” it.

Really that statement only shows your own internalized ageist beliefs. Not saying its a good/bad thing just a thing.

Not everyone believes younger is better, and in Eve that is the same as saying a bigger ship is automatically better which we know is a fallacy at its heart.

Here’s why there’s both old and young looking Capsuleers…

A Capsuleer clone is created by taking a snapshot of it’s former biological body…
A Jumpclone is created by taking a snapshot of it’s current Capsuleer clone, minus the implants…

Any other physical aspects such as Facial Features, Hair, Scars, Tattoo’s, Augmentations, etc, can all be changed, installed or removed at any time within Station ‘Customization’ Facilities…
