Hey all, looking for clarification regarding the market and trade skills.
If I put an item up for sale on the market, my order may not be seen or available for purchase depending on my skills - is that correct?
For example, if I put up a sell order of 5x Ravens in System A while being in System A… is my sell order limited to the station, the system, or the region? Is this impacted by the “Marketing” skill?
Does the “Marketing” skill allow my sell orders to be seen by players who are in System B, C, D, etc if it is trained to higher levels?

Marketing allows you to place “sell” orders from further away than you are located. So instead of being in jita, you could be in uedama and remotely sell your stuff in jita
Visibility is what one needs trained to be sitting in a region over from where your stuff is.
Say I got visibility to 4, and your stuff is in jita, as long as im in the same region, I can be 20 jumps away and buy your stuff from jita. Though id still have to pick it up or have someone deliver it
And once you’ve placed a sell order, that order is visible and can be bought by anyone in the same region. You don’t need to skill any trade whatsoever if you’re just looking to sell stuff, but if you’re selling stuff at any kind of volume you will want to (taxes etc).

Correct above, you do want to train accounting, broker relations and advanced broker relations

So, I just want to confirm, and forgive me if I am not understanding what seems to be a fairly obvious point.
I think I understand the idea of placing buy orders and sell orders.
Marketing - allows remote selling. You can sell items in System A from System B.
Procurement - allows remote buying. You can buy items in System A from System B.
It sounds like, per Synthetic Infomorph… if I place a sell order, I don’t need any special skills for others to see the order. In other words, a brand new character could sell 5x Ravens in System A… and other players could, potentially, see that order and buy that order from a few systems away?
And yes, I agree… skills to minimize taxes are a must!

keep in mind, you cannot lower your sales tax any lower than what the accounting skill allows.
broker percentage however, with skills is at 1.5%..
the lowest it can go is 1%, provided you have near max unmodified standings with the faction and corporation that owns the station.
so Jita - Caldari State and Caldari Navy both need to be near 10 (which state can take years to do) to be at 1% Most often having just caldari navy to 8 or 9 is sufficient as that will reduce you to 1.34 or 1.32%
No, Visibility increases the range your buy order can cover. Anyone can see every order in the region they’re currently in, and specifically buy things from sell orders, no skill is required for that.

Visibility (3x, 7.5M ISK) - increases maximum range of remote buy orders, so sellers can fill such orders from any station with this range of the remote buy order. Every buy order can have own effective range limited to this skill.
forgive my brain after driving for what feels like eternity yesterday (16 hours), but yes visibility is only for buy orders
