For the individual players i think it is good to copy the ranking method from other games.
Ranking method that compete with others to make challenge between them all.
I know that the events give specific reward for a specific score but on personal level.
Zkillboard ability for ranking can be used inside the game.
Let us say that a ranking event started and the first guy that do 2000 kM solo will achive large injector
via event ranking and the event will end at that point.
Some thing like that i think will be good to add .
