Ready to play?

When EVE server is down/starting/VIP-mode or latest patch/update has not been fetched, the launcher should tell the user exactly that.

Now it gives false information that the user could be able to launch the game and start playing, when in reality the server is not accepting connections. Sometimes the latest patch has not been yet downloaded and/or installed, which can be found out in the log in screen as incompatible version popup. Then you have to restart the launcher to force the update process to begin.

You don’t have to restart the launcher, you can go to settings and click “check for updates”…which i do very often as i have the problem that the launcher will just not update directly after it is started.

Make sure you give it a few seconds between server coming down, and restarting your launcher to fetch update info.

Also, when you start the launcher, it is is in ready mode. You can always start the game before launcher finds out there is a patch.

In order to get game patched after daily restart.

  1. Wait a few seconds after server comes down, for the patch server to change to update to next version is needed state.
  2. Restart Launcher.
  3. Wait for launcher to fetch update info from server.
  4. Wait for launcher to compare newest info with installed version, to see if a patch is needed.
  5. If a patch is needed launcher will now grey out Play and patch, if not then you can click Play and play the game.

Yes, a crystal ball is needed to know when you reached stage 5.

Personally if on when server comes down. I wait about a minute after DT to be sure the server has changed update state, then restart the launcher and wait for all the blinking elements to finish getting drawn, add a few seconds more, then if not patching yet, try log in, usually is enough time.

I just start the launcher and don’t wait or let it sort the things out on its own. I head directly to the cogwheel menu and in the EVE options i hit “check for game updates” and login once finished.
I just do it always after a launcher start, even when then updater still says “Ready to play”, as i am fed up with the waiting game and/or the updating after a client was already starting up.
Much faster and predictable.
