Replacing flesh with tech

You mean other than the fact that before it’s written-to, the ‘brain’ isn’t actually a brain, but just a polymer scaffolding, with the neurons flash-grown to match the configuration of the now-dead ‘brain’?

You don’t. Because until the image of the old brain-state is used to flash-grow the new brain… there’s no brain.

Hee. I don’t think we’re arguing, then.

We often aren’t, even when we think we are.

I’m going to move deep into the mountains of a random wormhole planet and become a monk to contemplate my flesh.

Be sure you pick one with a decent maintenance facility (or take one with you)? One of the problems of cybernetics is that most can’t self-repair.

Half-jokes aside I think most monks (maybe even regardless of culture?) don’t so much contemplate their flesh as come to understand how ephemeral it all is, and so focus on strengthening a deeper form of “self.”

For contemplating flesh, maybe an anatomy class? Or a gym. Or a biochem lab?

Ooooor, a taxidermy shop?

The flesh is the carrier of the spirit. The more the flesh is altered, its campatability with the spirit falters. When your spirit transfers after each death, it degrades as much as the body. This is what believe causes the insanity seen in many capsuleers.

It is possible that your condition is being accelerated due to this incompatibility, however as many have suggested i would look at changing your med techs first.
