Hi all. I’m a returning player from waaaaaay back in the day. I bought a Keres which requires Long Range Targeting V. I only have level IV, but I can get in the ship and undock with it.
Am I possibly ‘grandfathered’ in and can simply use the ship without the proper requirements? I have some extra skillpoints but I don’t want to use them if I don’t need to. I’m afraid something on the ship won’t work properly.

The way that skills for ships work in EVE is that you only require the primary/secondary(tertiary etc.) skill to actually fly the ship. In the case of a Keres that is Gallante Frigate level 5 and Electronic Attack Ships level 1. As such even if the underlying requirements aren’t met you can still fly the ship.
What you won’t be able to do however is increase your skill in Electronic Attack Ships. If you want to increase that a level, again you need to meet all that skills sub requirements which are Spaceship Command Level 3 and Long Range Targeting Level 5.
