Um… undock and see what it looks like in different lighting?
The lights shining on the ship in the preview on the right appear to be white.
The lights on the left are mainly blue, which means any red surfaces on your ship won’t look like red while docked in that particular structure.
It does look a bit better

I don’t think they are.
In the build window you have perfect light, in the hanger and space it’s darker so the pattern doesn’t show up as clearly.
CCP should add the option to change the light tone, direction and background as you can do in the character editor. This way you will get a better idea of how the skin will look in different environments.
I’ve actually found that the SKINs look better outside of SKINR in space - especially once you start to get some grime, etc. on the ships.
It’s true some colours looks quite different in game, but give your ship a wash (on the personalization tab in the fittings window) and that should bring out a lot more colour.
Hit that Clean Ship button: Fitting > Personalization >
