Separate Space for Newbies?

I’m not saying players are forced to rat. I’m just saying that with passive income they can afford to wield and utilize PvP forces.

Your average solo player has to choose.

Ah, seems I misread.

Well the average player doesn’t have to choose either. FW is a prime example of earning ISK while in a PVP situation. Ganking, WHs, ESS raiding, are a few other examples.

FW is a good example, yes. I guess ganking technically qualifies, although most ganking fleets are multiboxed these days (so not exactly a solo activity).

Someone lost 1.5 Trillion in a hauler last week in a gank. Unless CCP are gonna stop people moving 1.5 Trillion worth of stuff about in 14K EHP haulers…ganking will continue. I even got a similar though much smaller case myself…killed someone flying 11.5 billion worth of stuff in a Catalyst.

Players get complacent moving stuff around in inexpensive haulers. Eternal vigilance!

Ask yourself how many people see an advert for EVE and think ‘OMG…I must join that and spend 8 hours a day getting blown up by strangers.’ We can both play at hyperbole, but it’s not productive.

More likely, people look at an advert for EVE and think some variant of:

  • “I like space!”
  • “I like spaceships!”
  • “That game looks interesting and/or exciting (for whatever personal reason)!”

Some people definitely decide to play EVE because they want to fly spaceships and have battles and blow up other players. Absolutely they do. I would never argue that isn’t the case. One might even argue it’s the core demographic.

However, some people legitimately choose to play EVE because they like other aspects of a sandbox space simulator. They play for exploration, for trading, for mining, etc. Crazy as it may seem, some people really do enjoy looking at mining lasers for eight hours a day. They’re weird, but they exist.

I’m not saying that EVE should shape the game around non-PVPers or reduce/remove all risk from the game. But in discussions like these, we have to acknowledge that EVE is not a monoculture, so definitive statements like, “EVE players want X” are not very helpful.

As stated previously, my guess is that FC has some data to inform them what various segments of their playerbase want. A smart business will try to appeal to as many of the largest segments as they can. Obviously, some segments will have contradictory demands (e.g., one group might want to mine in absolute safety while another wants to be able to shoot anything everywhere). You can’t satisfy everyone, but in this case, Exordium seems like a measure to compromise between competing interests.

It’ll probably take years to see how it all plays out.

I don’t see any player in agreement with this change. I don’t see how this makes the game better. I hope the lead is not Fozzie on this one, the man’s head is full of bad ideas.

My hope is the area will not affect the way I play this game. Since I am not new, I doubt I will have any reason to visit the region. I don’t plan to role a new character either.

Most of the people complaining in this thread about the region, are those who want to abuse it, and/or waste the new players. I think it is a mistake to shield the new players and make them think the game is something else. However the video trailers already do make the game look very different.

In my opinion, I believe it will have no impact on the game or slow the growth rate. At most current players will soon ignore it, new players will skip it, like a bad cut scene.

Me too. Personally, I don’t think it’ll affect me at all. I don’t plan to visit Exordium. I don’t need any more alts. Even if I did start a new character, I don’t think I’d spend more time in Exordium then is required to get out. There isn’t anything there that I’d need or want.

What’s ludicrous is you constantly spouting the same old crap…

In 2015, CCP Rice based his stats on new players who quit the game within 2 weeks…
In 2019, CCP Hilmar based his stats on new players who quit the game within 3 months…

Also I never said all of them quit due to ganking… Stop trying to twist things out of context… And since you don’t understand basic English:

Here is CCP Hilmar’s 2019 presentation - Beyond The Friendship Machine - which starts @ 37.07 and ends @ 44.10… CCP Hilmar talks about new players and ‘The Magic Moment’ @ 42.50…

EVE Down Under 2019 - Beyond The Friendship Machine

The Magic Moment is when new players get non-consensually PVP’d… That whole segment about new player retention and the graph he presents clearly counters that old CCP Rise presentation, which once again was only done on new players with 2 weeks in the game…

CCP Hilmar:

Devastating Loss is really like, we now call it The Magic Moment, at the moment you lose your first spaceship is the moment whether, either you have enough understanding of why it happened, and or you have the social network to help you through it, then you play forever. If you don’t then you immediately quit and never come back.

Understanding why it happened, a ray of hope that you can respond and get back on your feet and get revenge, and social support. During the Magic Moment, that is what makes an elite Eve player.

Getting revenge is the clue to what he’s talking about… He’s not referring to ‘Devastating Loss’ as happening in a big fleet fight with other players because losing a ship there is to be expected… Nor is he talking about PvE because you can’t get revenge on AI NPC’s… He’s talking about being alone and getting attacked resulting in ship loss…

Not understanding why it happened, not having a social support group, no hope of being able to respond, get back on their feet and get revenge…

Note the key phrase - ‘and get revenge’… Since you obviously lack basic reading comprehension skills, what he’s referring to is brand new players getting ganked… Now if you can’t understand that, then you’re even more of a fool than what I already think you are…

So here we are in 2026… Lo and behold they’re now implementing a PvP-free ‘Safe Space’ for new players…

Ill take that as a compliment. :rose:

I can look at mining lasers for hours at a time…and run security L4 missions at the same time.

Weird, isnt it.

One last crazy idea:

I know it’s a waste of time, BUT starting a new char AND not getting any help from your main can give you a new perspective about the newbro situation, instead of the fixed ideas some of you have.

Sleep on it.

Thanks for linking that video - I hadn’t seen it before. Scary that they lose 90% of new signups within a week…

I haven’t been to Exordium yet, but one of the videos I saw with first impressions mentioned it’s some of the prettiest real estate out there.

People seem worried about the retention amount, but it doesn’t surprise me, EvE is quite a slow and boring game and most people are not into that kind of thing, from talking to my gamer mates, they don’t play EvE because it’s a huge time sink, or digital crack. To enjoy playing this game you must like what are actually quite tedious activities, whether it’s watching mining lasers, blowing up rats or sitting on a Titan waiting for the cyno to go up. Sure there are periods of intense excitement, but there’s a lot of tedium in between.

It’d the kind of game that grabs a certain kind of person and they’ll then dedicate hours each day to playing, but for most people it’s too tedious, not worth the effort.

There’s a huge disparity between how EVE is marketed and what it initially delivers.

When a person has to ‘elaborate’ with tautologies, you can tell they don’t actually have much of a point. I mean, by definition most of the people anyone meets in EVE will be ‘strangers’.

Nope. The person spouting crap, inventing stuff, and contradicting themselves is you. You claimed that ’ CCP Hellmar totally debunked those claims’ . Which is nonsense as NOWHERE in the 2019 video does he do so. There is NOWHERE in the 2019 video where he says the 2015 stats are wrong. In fact if you could actually read…he repeats pretty much the same stats.

And just how appallingly bad at reading are you that you can’t see that the 2019 data still shows the 90% drop off IN THE FIRST WEEK ? You know, one of those ‘week’ thingies that last…guess what…7 DAYS. Does a week last some other number of days in your universe ?

Really, one has to take a lesson from nature. Predator/Prey relationships evolve to hone each other. A Gazelle can run fast because it gets chased by leopards. There is a delicate balance at the watering hole…and simply saying ’ we’d like more gazelles’ and reducing predation only leads to a temporary increase in prey population because as the population increases other factors ( such as disease, over-grazing, etc ) kick in…and all you ultimately get is a reduced but weaker population. Ya know…in some places humans have to go out and shoot creatures because their natural prey is gone.

But heck…we’ll see how this experiment in messing with the watering hole goes.

When does it counter of CCP Rise said? Where does he say that ganking of newbros happens a lot? Why would he call it a magic moment if it was a bad thing? The new player experience after that talk? ADDED more loss of ships, not removed.

It would be nice in general to be able to align with any factions official too.

Not just pirates, ore, soe, syndicate and more haha. Maybe one day they too will get FW

A tautology is a repetition of the same statement in different words. What I gave you was a juxtaposition to illustrate your own logical fallacy.

Regardless, it’s clear you only want to hear your own opinion parrotted back to you, so I’ll leave you to it, and good luck.
