Ship textures don't look great up close

Hey,

I’ve done multiple searches on the internet and on this forum specifically and coudln’t find anything. So here goes: what’s up with the textures in this game? Even maxed out it still doesn’t look… great. While this doesn’t really affect me running missions or mining, while I’m in transit I just like to gawk at the ship I’m in and to be honest: it looks bad up close.

Recently, a feature was also patched in to celebrate you getting a new ship by playing a sort of “reveal cinematic”. Awesome! Except, now the awful textures are even more apparent. Is something wrong with my setup? And if not, are the devs planning on adding better textures down the road?

My setup:
7800X3D
32 GB 6000 Mhz DDR5 RAM
RTX 2060 Super
Dell S2417DG @ 2560 x 1440
Eve Online loaded on SSD, full game downloaded
Settings maxed out except for the AMD FSR One
Windows 11

Thanks!

To illustrate my point:

To be clear: I’m aware that the system requirements of this game are something of a running joke. Someone pulling something out of a dumpster and still being able to run Eve and stuff like that. But I was also around when Trinity was introduced: a completely new graphics engine which existed alongside the old one for a while before replacing it completely. I’m not saying they should do a Trinity again but there was a time when this game did try a little harder.

My grand daughter would like to know, did you try setting it to wumbo?

It is too dark for me to play with all those shaders at max. I either play in what my husband calls “potato mode” or I disable the 3D with CRTL+Shift+F9. Look on the bright side, CCP isn’t charging you for skins. You didn’t have to spend real cash money for a ship skin correct?

Have fun!

I can assure you, my unskinned Covetor looks equally unimpressive texture-wise.

But since you went there: what’s the point of letting your players skin ships if they look like this anyway?

As for paying: whenever my membership is due they usually have these actions to buy Plex at a discount and then another discount to renew using Plex. I just grab a calculator and figure out if it’s worth it. This usually leaves some residual Plex which combined with the monthly goals and seasonal stuff is more than enough to create a skin or two.

In short: I probably paid no more than any other paying for their subscription.

Well, I’m saying they should. Updating the graphics once a decade is not asking too much, in my opinion.
