SKINR Editor Improvements are needed

First up is the lighting. Skins in space look very different than skins in the editor. Giving us the option to change the background (and ship reflections) in the editor to one of like 5 or 6 nebula options to simulate being undocked in different regions. Along with the option to change the “sun” color to further that location simulation.

Secondly, the faction “stock” colors being available in the editor would be great. Like if I wanted to make a skin for the Kronos to make it look more like a regular Megathron or at least the base green or gray shades used on the regular non-skinned T1 ships. Having faction corporation colors available would be even better. Being able to use the Lai Dai khaki satin on other ships would be nice. Having a matte, satin, gloss, and high-gloss version of all the colors would be great, too. Basically, the color palette right now kind of sucks. A lot of the colors right now are more Modern Warfare clown skin colors instead of EVE in universe lore friendly colors… Why can’t I have my Kronos painted with the Triglavian green?

More basic patterns would be good, also. Like the hazard pattern on those recent skins.

Also, let is be able to change the colors for the ship’s lighting. Maybe even 3 separate lighting options, like; Interior Lighting from windows and such, Exterior Lighting like running lights, “headlights”, etc.., and a separate lighting option for like Marauder Bastion mode lighting and other ships that have the same extra effects.

Lighting, fixed camera angles, ship weathering, more unlimited design elements, a history log for sales, etc.

On top of everything you said about corporation colors…add NPC corporation logos too.

How about possibility of buying (looting) blank color (separate for matte/satin/metal) and blank pattern components?

So we could define our own colors with Color Picker™
…and define our own patterns - I know, I know, TTP <1s :stuck_out_tongue:

It could be revised and approved by CCP, like Alliance logos but maybe faster, and would cost PLEX (non refundable) to submit a pattern for revision

I’d love an unlimited “Unicorn” color picker - even if it was a cash only purchase.

1: Repurposing the editor to accept other, multiple forms of payment other than plex.

2: The Corporation LOGO as it works now, can be bought with a “X” amount of “X” (I forgot the name) and is separate completely from the SKINR editor. It’s put in a fixed location and on big ships is so small you can’t spot it if not full zoom in.
It’s irritating bad. We should be able to purchase it as one shot overlay use, this way we could commercialize our corp.

3: The Logo design itself is the most boring thing in the game, it’s a three layer design with limited overlays and colors. We should be able to import one bitmap at least. The Own corp LOGO design should have a separate Editor entirely and an import function would mean opening the gates to crazy designs that could then be used in the regular SKINR Editor. How much “X” should cost each passage should restrict its free reign over regular Overlays, and only one Logo per corp is allowed at the moment, what would happen if you decide to change your logo to the old one with the changes? It shouldn’t be treated as a normal Overlay but the ability to industrialize the process and selling it to the market could be a very lucrative and fun source of income. Only active members of that corp can “use” that overlay to create a SKINR and should pay an additional “X” sum to personally activate the corp Logo licence, not a corp wide feature. Or it would be abused and break regular Overlay market.

This are the three Major changes, together with adding T3 ships metas, that should be taken into consideration. I Like the illumination in Space option as I do like also running consoles texts in Neon, Lasers, etc and particle trails effects.
Both of which could add a self illumination source to the ship design and create gorgeous looking in Space design without requiring context specific ship mesh reflections.

Ps: one previous suggestion was the ability to “recycle” bad SKINR designs, I think it’s still a valid argument (Just edit the name of a made SKINR would be great, if it’s your design).

  1. Asked for (repeatedly); rejected.
  2. Requested (no update in several months).
  3. Hinted at FanFest, no idea when/if an improved corporate logo editor will see the light of day.
  4. T3 SKINs have been (repeatedly) requested.
  5. “Recycling” SKINs has also been suggested.

What’s more: A way to prevent the patterns from showing up everywhere. I currently want to apply a pattern to the front facing side of a dread but do not want it to show up on the back of the ship. I cannot figure out how to do properly without negatively impacting the overall design I have in mind. I use Projection Front, but that shows the pattern on the back side as well. Without Projection, the pattern is annoyingly mirrored between the top and bottom half of the ship.

I can turn off the Tech Area, which removes the pattern from the back but also in large parts from the front. This is quite frustrating.

Yeah, I’d like a projected to “this side only” method as well. The only way to really stop it right now is to apply another solid or gradient pattern over the back and change the blend mode to exclude it or whichever one it was, jacking up the skin cost even more. They’re a bit absurdly overpriced as it is.

Despite falling off more recently, I was pretty active in talking about SKINr just after and many months following its launch last June. A bunch of the things I was hoping for did find traction eventually, but a bunch others still need to land–and hopefully they will eventually! A little over a year since its launch, here’s a list of what I’m hoping for re: SKINr changes moving forward…

  1. Designer Storefronts – I’ve covered this one in posts elsewhere in here, and it might be my topmost hope. It’s exciting to think about how something like dedicated designer storefronts might promote return/continued customers and overall access to inventories without relegating designers to situations where they need to post visually annoying blocks of SKINr listing links to local to let people know the full of their inventory. This kind of system would allow for individual listings as we currently have them, but it would also allow for dedicated subsections of the paragon hub that filters down to skins with a common maker’s mark. I don’t think it’s unreasonable to assume that a buyer might enjoy a design and want to find more from that specific designer, right? For example, imagine a button among the purchase options that says something like, “More from this Designer!”–and then imagine a situation where that button exists even if the skin is being resold by someone else. There’s just a lot of marketplace health in this kind of idea.

  2. Transaction History – You might be like me in that you’ve begun to create skin-specific pricetags to better understand at a glance what’s selling when things actually do sell. For example, I list Skin A for 1.775b, and I know that I’ve sold it when 1.775b shows up in my transactions tab. Skin B is listed for 1.725b-- again, I see 1.725b; I know it’s Skin B. 1.975b is Skin C. 1.115b, D. Etc. Etc. Having a register within the paragon hub would go a long way in being able to track sales and project forward with better cost strategies. Differentiating listing price in the way I’ve been doing it isn’t the most inconvenient thing in the world, but it really can and probably should be better.

  3. Engine/Particle Elements – This one is pretty straightfoward. I think both designer and client would love to see customization of engine color/effect and particle color/pattern/effect. The only real caveat I can think of is that it puts playermade skins that much closer in competition with things that arrive in CCP’s own storefront. I can appreciate why they want to keep a separation there, but, man, it would be cool to collect and apply these kinds of recolors.

  4. Direct Commissions/Work Orders – Letting customers post describing what they’re hoping for and allowing designers to use their skills toward it would not only allow for new texture within the market; it might also create opportunities for new skill categories. For example, imagine a situation where someone can post a work order and two designers put in a sketch bid. One creates something close to what the buyer wants and can complete it in 5 days. Another creates something a little off from what the buyer wants (yet, it’s still a great skin), but is able to complete it in 2 days. The buyer now has an interesting choice based on their initial prompt idea.

  5. Make ‘Complete Now’ ~10-15% More Cost-Prohibitive – This one’s pretty simple. It’s my opinion that the ability to sequence work quickly doesn’t have great value because people inclined to buy skins from players likely also have enough ISK/PLEX to just soak the cost of completing it immediate. IMO, the costpoint of completing something immediately needs to go up.

I’d like to reprint my article in forum to here, please take a look.

  1. Partially eraser
..sure it works on each excess parts if you design it as. it should be on every elements of colors and patterns.

  2. Lighting the elements up
..it’s a spotlighting to the part of the hull when you want to point them up even with as a lining. it should be set certain distances.

  3. Writing letters on
..would be able to write letters as you like as patterns, sounds it should be a feature which lights the hull up I’ve mentioned at above.
In that case spotlighting feature could be like as letters.

  4. Effects in addition to patterns on hull
..would be dealt with the feature as same as patterns. should be able to choose colors.

  5. Color(some like tones) adjustment
..I don’t know what CCP want to do with them, but at least it should be able to adjust tones with gamma as to be darken or brighten.
Then a certain misfortune on the result of creation will be solved. I like to buy colors by isk in the market atm though, that’s awesome experience to purchase them with earnd isk or just with PLEX…I know it.

  6. Some more patterns lay over
..just as it says. currently two of them can be available. guess it can be capable more one or two? and no limit if possible.

  7. Pattern creation(even can sell on the suitable market maybe Paragon Hub or so)
..can create patterns by ourselves to apply them to the hull, Just for it. should be named then to it.
In that case I’m not sure for the rights on creations though. EU and international authorities work for or agree with it? I don’t think so.
We must pay considerable efforts for it I’m guessing. I even don’t think that judicial systems and cabinets or the various authorities in the world can not to be capable presently, sigh and again sighs.

  8. The effect particularly on the colors
..iridescent, mirror as quite mirror effect, transparency through the hull that applied, luminescence and/or radiant.
In that case it should hold the hull silhouette visually sure enough.

  9. The profile of original pattern the ship has goes on both clearing up and shaded off or remaining existing
..In that case the profile degree can be adjusted. and they could be hitted partial layers on the existing original pattern.

  10. Modification(Decoration) of present SKINR
..can add several features on of which I’ve mentioned at above items and the current after the creations. should be able to do on provided designs from other persons.
Sure it may be needed by more PLEX on it.

  11. Designed SKINRs limit in the inventory advance moreover the current with certain skills
..I’d say if we try to create them with variety 125 of the limit certainly short number. We want use money for PLEX more effectively and successfully.
Fraud you too be with, then fall credit.

  12. SKINR decomposer
..It recycles SKINRs into the elements. In that case it may cost some of PLEX or the elements destroyed without PLEX.
SKINR and PLEX should be more useful in game, if that can recycle the elements, market would be more strategic.

  13. Featured camera work
..Aut rotate, auto snap angles we’ve set, Auto zoom in/out with other featuristic camera, light up option as same as resculpt.
It may cost PLEX with the certificate as same as multiple training and resculpt.

  14. In addition, introduce the app which can create SKINR design for mobile devices
..As It says, the data have to be able to be imported to the game though. I really want such an app here!!!

…At least I want transaction history to SKINR contents too. 4. probablly would also include particle you’ve mentioned I think.

  1. Partial eraser: I would like to see some sort of masking option that doesn’t require the costs and slot requirement of a second pattern.
  2. Lighting the elements up: I’m not sure what you mean.
  3. Writing letters on: This would be cool, also. The limitation though, I think, would be that everyone would have to download your custom skin every time they see you for the first time. I think due to how the SKINr works, all of the design elements must exist in the game already. What we see on other’s ship is basically configuration data?
  4. Effects in addition to patterns on hull: You mean like dirt and damage effects, similar to the Rogue Drone domi skin? That would be cool.
  5. Color and tone adjustment: I’ve been wishing for this, also. The color pallet is so limited right now and even slightly darker shades of gray end up costing 20+PLEX over a lighter shade of gray. It’s stupid.
  6. Some more patterns lay over: I would like to see maybe one more pattern slot, but definitely not unlimited, lol. My second pattern slot sometimes ends up being wasted just to hide areas of the first pattern.
  7. Pattern creation: Same problems as 3 I think. BUT, there should be a way for us to submit our own pattern creations to have them evaluated and possibly added in game, similar to Planetside 2. Model modifications would be pretty cool, also XD
  8. The effect of particularity on colors: We should definitely have more control over colors’ materials.
  9. I’m not sure what you mean here, either.
  10. Idk, maybe? Maybe let us alter the existing elements in a skin but change too much.
  11. Have to use skills to increase your library capacity is absolutely stupid. It’s nothing but an SP sink and they know it.
  12. I would definitely like to recycle a few of my skins and get my plex/materials back. What looks good in the skinr sometimes doesn’t look so good once undocked…
  13. You mean just camera options in the SKINr editor? That’s something I’m asking for, also.
  14. You just want a game to play when not at your computer, lol.

Thanks comment I quite appreciate that much more than parental love I’m guessing.
But I don’t ask whoever slip their holes out everything I need, just compose an article in the corresponding thread in forum.

..So that just comes to my mind that lighting up drones and something modules have use of the effects on SKINR.
I’m a PvEer mostly in high-sec, I don’t need to use drones and some slots for the battle it occurs often actually.
