So I made a new character. It was eye opening

“People who’ve played the game longer have opinions on the game informed by their time playing”?

It’s almost like a “new” player with no killboard activity doesn’t have enough experience to express an informed opinion about the game.

The thread has reached its Nash equilibrium :joy:

She’s saying that you have vested interests in maintaining the status quo. You can pretend that this is so obvious as to invalidate what she’s saying, but it isn’t.

Again, EVE will continue it’s slow death spiral if it listens to the vets who think what we did 10/15/20 years ago bears any relevance to the success of this game in 2023.

EVE is broken, it can be fixed, but it needs a change in how new and inexperienced players are handled, and it starts with stopping the kow-towing to those who profit from their misery.

It started that way tbh.

I really hope not. It really is a nice game! It would be a shame.

Let us guess. The fix is, by pure happenstance, exactly what would suit you personally. THAT would save it, right?

This exact argument has been made the past 20 years. Yet the game lives on. The game keeps changing whether you and I like it or not, and both of our desires are reflected in the changes approximately 0% of the time.

My comment is pointing out that calling people who play the game as having a “conflict of interest” is an obvious nonsequitur and such rhetoric exists solely to put people down. It’s sole purpose is to be insulting, no matter the veneer of “civil” language applied.

I’m not invalidating her argument by pointing out the stupid lame put-down because it wasn’t making an argument in the first place. I was reframing it in a non-insulting, obvious, charitable terms. Elevating the discussion, if you will. If you want well-reasoned points, you’ll probably have to scroll up 200+ posts at this point.

Funny how that death spiral goes down and up all the time…

Well, here’s the thing to consider: not even CCP (or anyone else) understands why their odd little game is such a long-lived success. Would you advise them to change one of the core elements of the game on the off chance that there might be a remote possibility that today’s new players might like the game even more than the seasoned ones, with the risk of breaking the magic that held this game up for two decades straight ?

Amazing, another person who doesn’t play the game, with a strong opinion about how the game should be. It’s almost like it’s the same person…

What is the expertise basis you judge this on? And what did you find out in validated research is a vet’s interest?

Let me just say that I spend enourmeous parts of my game time and ingame asssets / out-of-game-corp-logistics to train noobs, get them to like EVE, stay long and prosper and give them a solid ground of basis knowledge they can use to become experienced players that are a valuable part of any corp they choose to join and good ingame-friends for the times to come. And the “skill point issue” that is discussed here never was a factor that played any significant role in it. But, maybe you know better, because you have much more insight than me. Or, you just have a “feeling” and are hurt that others who have much more experience than you tell you that this feeling misleads you.

So she’s not interested in what you have in your cargo. I’m sure she’s seen it before, that doesn’t mean she doesn’t consider you, it only means that she’s ready to gank for new horizons, put a bit of spice in her playstyle and find out if she’s really who everybody thinks she is, including her.
Give her some time to find herself and take this opportunity to re-evaluate your internal narrative. You may find that what you consider a slight may actually be a gift for you to find out that there’s plenty of fish in the sea.
