This is the story of the SOE Resonators, and the ASTERO.
It was once possible to buy it in the SOE shop but now, but now they sell you the BPC, one run, for
10Mil plus 10k LPs— about 20Mil isk in value… The ASTERO was worth about 40 Mil on the market.
But buying the ASTERO with just LPs was a lot more expansive, on the LP side of things…
SO now I would like to make one, but there is the CATALYST HYPE, and SOE resonators pricing
has just doubled their value overnight….
So it now COSTS, just to make one ASTERO, 72MIl ONLY for the SOE resonators…
Basically who is selling the ship for 95Mil, more than DOUBLE the old price, is losing money…
So I thought, well what happens if I reprocess the Astero? Will I get SOE resonators back as it is the case with bad MUTAPLASMIDS ROLLS, that you get actual stuff that is useful???
Only Minerals. No SOE Resonators, no NOTHING AT ALL.
OK, I have managed to build an Astero for around 30Mil, plus 30KLP and some cheaper elements…
considering it is being sold for 93Mil… I spent around 60Mil to build one… still very expansive….
but more menageable…. if SOE resonators weren’t in the SOE LP store it would have been really stupid… I hope the future will keeps balances and checks so this wonderful ship
will still be accessible to Alpha players over the world.
Astero is a pretty expensive ship to fly without a covert cloak as Alpha player, I wouldn’t recommend it.
But now that Asteros are so expensive to build while SOE resonators are being hoarded for to the upcoming Odysseus, why would you spend a SOE resonator on an Astero? If I had that LP I’d be selling SOE resonators, it probably fetches a good price at the moment.
Well, for a start, they tell you up front what you’ll get back via reprocessing. And that list doesn’t include resonators.
Here’s a brief, and somewhat tangentially related history lesson my friend: Wayyyyyyy back when, before Ore Compression was A Thing™. Reprocessing modules got you most, if not all, of the minerals in a module back. At that time, if we needed to move vast amounts of minerals around, we’d first build the humble 425mm Railgun. Ship those modules, reprocess them at a POS and use the resulting minerals for building stuff. The 425mm Railgun used minerals in a very handy ratio that made them very convenient as an ersatz form of ore compression. The minerals used to make the railgun took up a far larger volume than the railgun itself.
So, at the time, we were paying rather large taxes to NPC corps in hisec to build railguns with minerals bought off the Jita/Amarr/Dodixie markets. The current system is far better.
OK, but I have made the Math, and right now, with the inflated prices ( seems almost RL….)
SOE sells for an LP raw exchange of 0.4Mil for 1K LPs…
The Astero is worth 93Mil and taken for free all the Minerals, doing the job somewhere where you don’t pay excess taxations etc…. you barely cover the costs to make it…. it’s almost negative earnings… selling the Astero for 84Mil and if you haven’t sourced the SOEs yourself you’re off by more than 10Mil… So the real price of the Astero should be yes about 70Mil to make and you will get a small, insignificant profit.
The Nice part of the old system was that if you were in a WH or NULL SEC and had the BPC and some minerals, you could live off-grid, and the exchange rate at the End of the day was not much different… things costed less to make but there was also less margins of errors…
And those who decided the prices of ORE had the upmost power. So it is more distributed know. I agree it is far better under a lot of circumstances. It’s got more and more complex and margins are still razor thin at the End of the day….
I would like to talk from small fish perspective, that is trying to bring some food to the table… I still have the 425mm T2 BPC from back the old days, and I could never catch up with the changes…
Anyway, why isn’t possible to compress modules anymore??? It used to be a thing to clean up your hangar and better organize, but I noticed that is not possible…. I’m talkin in stations…
There’s so much things going on I hope to be prepared for the Catalyst expansion….
You are complaining about the current Astero prices while you have also recognised that the SOE resonators are overpriced at the moment as result of hoarding for the upcoming Catalyst expansion.
Maybe just don’t make Asteros now? The build price is too high, wait a while.
