I thought this “implementation” is simply some kind of database access, so you can fetch prices or other ingame data directly to excel/googlesheets/libreoffice etc? basically removing the need to use third-party-data like evemarketer api. And not a complete “excel in eve”.
Yeah, it’s EVE in Excel rather than the other way round. It’s supposed to let you log in through the plugin then pull data directly into excel without needing the coding knowledge that ESI requires.

Microsoft Excel had already placed a flight sim inside Excel… does anyone still remember?
