Suicide ganking is way too low risk, change my mind

Why would anybody insure their ship? It isn’t worth it. I inssured 1 ship in all a long time ago and when I saw my “conpensation” I felt really stupid.

That’s just utter nonsense. In null you have all the time in the world to solo attack. You don’t have Concord arriving to blow up your ship after 20 seconds or less. In fact I’d argue it requires LESS ‘skill’ to solo kill something like a Venture in nullsec, with all the time in the world, than it does in a 0.8 system where you have to arrive and get within range and fire and kill…all within 10 seconds or less.

Likewise the only reason you can solo kill an Orca with an Ibis in nullsec is that infinite time element. It has nothing to do with ‘skill’. And the only reason people require multiple attack ships to do the same job in highsec is again that very short time window.

It most certainly is…if you’ve got a good chance of losing your ship in a big battle within the next 12 weeks and you are likely to have multiple battles. Which can happen to even the most skilled pilots. I paid 18m ISK insurance on a 250m ISK ( total cost inc fittings ) ship, and got back 60m ISK from insurance. That’s a nice 42m ISK.

Obviously, the lower the risk the less it is worth it.

Flying like you have a brain in your head is all it takes to perfectly avoid gankers.

because insurance doesn’t cover fittings, only covers the cost of the ship at the time of material cost..

Or buying a permit.

:smiling_face_with_horns:

It isn’t, because you lost a 250M ship. That 42Misk doesn’t begin to compensate for that.

I never said it compensated for the entire ship. Its 42m you wouldn’t have if you hadn’t insured.

Insurance isn’t to compensate the full cost of a ship.

You would’ve lost the ship either way. Insurance is just a bet on “will I lose the ship” which pays out if you lose it in time.

Free profit if you win the bet, loss if you lose the bet.

Gankers should be allow to insure their ships.

Same as everyone else.

Why discriminate?

I never saw it that way. Thank you!

If they fix ganking it will no longer distract people from realising how poor quality EVE Online is.

At least with ganking being a thing players will never realise the game has other problems

Ah yes, the ol’ magician’s trick: ignore the broken game behind the curtain and watch the Catalyst explode.

You’re not wrong. In a game that boasts the risk vs. rewards concept, I’d expect them to have better consequences for these shenanigans. I believe if CCP would make it where those who regularly seek to get their lunch money back in ISK would be immediately a legal target, that would sow it down. The fact that the CONCORD would pop me if I destroy a known suicide ganker on sight tells me these bozos are in the CCP “good ole boy” program, and I suspect it - as unrealistic as the risk vs rewards is - makes CCP a lot of money somehow. You’re playing in a world where things are money motivated, both in game and on the product level. In the free market, when someone’s business ethics seem flawed, you can either stay with them and deal with it, or find a product you like better. Be honest though…MMOs coming out now. You think you’ll find a better place than New Eden to play.

That Retriever, is that you?

You’ve left the rigs open and the mid slots aren’t for tank.

Here is his chosen fit, 20k EHP:

Killed by 3 Catalysts.

Here is the same Retriever but with better choice of mods to get more than twice the hitpoints, 42k EHP:

Should take an extra 3 Catalysts.

Here is a similar fit but on a Procurer instead for almost five times the hitpoints of the destroyed Retriever, 98k EHP:

Now Catalysts will likely avoid you and attack your neighbour instead.

Instead of making dumb fitting choices and blaming gankers, try to look at your fits and adjust them with the existence of gankers in mind.

You only have to live until CONCORD arrives. Add some tank.

CONCORD is indifferent. To them, you’re just another player illegally destroying another player. Much like in real life, it doesn’t matter if the guy you just saw on the sidewalk is a known criminal, if you put a bullet in his head, the police will be along shortly to do the same to you….
