Suicide ganking is way too low risk, change my mind

For point 1 to happen, you’d have to remove CONCORD. Why should a HS-pirate fly a 1b Machariel for example that is a 100% blown up by a magic NPC police within 20 seconds?

So, first question: Do you want to remove the “100% ship loss by CONCORD” mechanic in HS?

Point 2: already exists. Defender has zkillboard he can check for groups and chars doing ganks on a regulare basis. He has a standing-system where he can mark those chars red. He has a local in HS that instantly shows him if gankers are around. He has lots of fitting options that make it incredibly hard to catch and/or kill him. He has ingame maneuvers that can make a gank fail or considerably more difficult or costly.

So, second question: What “Options” do you actually miss? There is a reason why people can learn how not to get ganked and then they aren’t ganked for years to come. Which means: following a pretty simple set of rules and knowing some basics about maneuvers and fitting increase your safety in HS to aroind 99+ %. What else is missing?

Point 3: already exist. Defenders are punished for not following said handful of simple rules or acting too sloppy. Attackers are punished by overconficene or messing up their calculations or chain of actions. More than one ganking crew has been lured into attacking a bait and lost all their ships for no profit.

So, third question: What kind of “punishment” do you want to see that doesn’t completely break the profession?

Point 4 is literally Point 2 in disguise. Smart play already is rewarded. Thats why most people aren’t ganked. And thats why the few ganking groups that are still there work highly profitable. Both sides can outplay each other pretty efficiently. It takes some learning, some attention and some effort. Gankers have done this, those who don’t get ganked have done this. Those who get ganked haven’t done it. Their own fault.

So, question 4: Where is “the problem”?

Point 5 is just a claim, that isn’t even true. So we can simply ignore that one. If you land on a grid full of ships with guns staring at you and no escape plan, you already messed up before.

It’s the guy who makes a new account ever 4-6 months in order to spam us with ‘reasonable conversations’ about ganking, which are now composed by ChatGPT. It’s the same guy, he never left, he’s right there.

They also tell you not to pick up bits of metal that are glowing hot in real life, but you don’t argue that advice, do you?

The easiest way to mitigate a risk is to avoid it altogether. I have zero risk of drowning in a boating accident by not going on boats.

Suicide ganking is good for the game since it destroys ships, modules and loot it keeps prices up.

The brutal fact that gankers keep the ship manufacturing and mining going by attacking the same ships they need to gank with is rather counter-productive and probably causes inflation somewhere along the line.

If gankers didn’t periodically cull the hulk population, minerals would flood the market and value would drop precipitously. Miners, remember to thank gankers for their service in local.

And if gankers didn’t periodically cull the mission runner population, marauders and gilas would dropp in value and wouldn’t be worth producing, disincentivising miners from playing. Mission runners, remember to thank gankers for their service in local.

Anyway no, ganking has no measurable impact on the economy, even though even a failed gank at least results in a dozen dead destroyers. There just aren’t anywhere near enough gankers active.

That is why the economy in Echoes is so screwed up. There is no ganking in high sec, minimal pvp in low, there aren’t even any belt rats to attack you. A 100% safe Farmville in space. As a result, mined ores and minerals are all but worthless…

So let me get this straight. Gankers are simultaneously the heroic guardians of the economy and so irrelevant they don’t move a single market graph? That’s impressive. Most people need two separate posts to contradict themselves, but you managed to speedrun it in one.

Either ganking is essential to keep the universe from collapsing or it’s too tiny to measure. You can’t claim gankers are the economic janitors of New Eden and then say they don’t actually clean anything.

Pick a lane, buddy. Even a Catalyst suicide crew commits harder than this argument.

Woosh.

That’s right. War is peace. Freedom is slavery. Ignorance is strength. Thank you for your mining service.

If you say so aikio.

Sometimes you can come off as a habitual liar!

For 1 billion ISK I can blow you a kiss. Also it’s Aiko, not “aikio”.

Who’s the “habitual liar”?

High sec suicide ganking in and of itself is fine, even good, as a possibility. The issues that plague it are thus:

  1. The rise of multi-boxing drastically lowers the time to kill for a target. (N+1 until they die faster than CONCORD arrives, and then have an alt scoop the loot.)
  2. Clone Soldier tag resets remove all long term penalty for repeated bad behavior at dirt cheap prices.

Nothing can be done about issue #1, but the Clone Soldier tag mechanic should be removed, and they are converted to NPC buy order turn ins only.

I also think CONCORD pulling should simply be removed, but that’s more of a secondary thing.

I’m just gonna take a wild guess here, but after 20 years of Highsec PvP, I think maybe (just maybe) CCP doesn’t agree with you. Have you tried a more carebearish game? I heard Candy Crush 3 is featuring a new boomer safety zone. Also, in Fortnite, before the round starts there is a 30 second Highsec zone for carebears to run around pretending to play the game.

It’s a little difficult to take your response without a huge grain of salt given who you are. I did also say that I think the ability to suicide gank is a good thing.

But I also think actions should have consequences for both sides. Pirates are free to yar har har in Low/Null/WH, but High Sec needs to have a certain level of minimum overall civility for the game’s health. At least in my lowly opinion.
