The asteroids aren’t “affected”, it’s only a ‘readout’ of their remaining ore amount.
The boni from the survey chipset are passive, if you have one installed (hint: the scanner is available on mining ships even if you don’t have a mining chipset installed).
The “darkened” state probably just means that there are no unscanned asteroids in range. But thats a guess, because I live in wormholes and the belts here have so few asteroids that a single scan analyzes them all. I have never seen the scanner go “dark”.
The scanner is a separate thing from your mining stats such as residue.
While the mining chipset and mining foreman bursts affect both the scanner and your residue this doesn’t mean your scanner has impact on your residue, the scanner only shows you extra information about the rocks.
But I’m glad to see you found that it makes no difference yourself in your last pictures!
I will be polite…but I dislike the new Mining Chipset interaction.
Because we now have lost alot of data on belt composition and even the volume m3 per rock on the belt. We could actually total up a belt and figure out how much m3 was there.
This has been one of the bigger problems in game with the new survey chip set.
And the other issue is the bonuses are not really impressive for what they are. [too low] It only becomes interesting with self-boosting mining ships.
Residue also is adjustable depending on the crystal you are running if T2. The new graphics do show the “chunks” taken out.
But still prefer the older mining survey scanner for much more in depth details…while the new mechanic seems to limit information to the locked rocks which is not ideal…Especially in Trig systems. [lower targeting numbers penalty]
