T3 haulers

So, I had this idea. Why not a T3 hauler class to bridge the gap between freighters and standard/t2 haulers?

Four subsystems avialable for cargo : ships, minerals, ice and PCO or fleet hangar.
Four subsystems available for defence : cloaky, armor, shield and ECM support
Four subsystems for propulsion : warp speed, agility, speed and MWD/MJD bonus
Four subsystems for utility and offense : dronebay, logi, missiles and neut

So you could build a mineral hauler that uses ECM to get away, is agile and neuts itself out of trouble or maybe a ship hauler that is cloaky, warps fast and does logi when it arrives, and so on.

Ofc not for direct combat, but combat support roles. It would add a lot of flexibilty and hey, new hulls!

Good luck trying to balance cargo, ehp, “special features” and price with all that stuff you want them to do.

What you have in mind has the potential to simply make lots of other ships simply obsolete.

Why would I ever use a freighter for large volumes of cargo when I can use a faster-warping cloaky ship that carries the same volume of the type if item I want to move?

This wouldn’t improve player choice, as it is presented it would reduce it. As Syzygium said, this has the potential to make the other haulers obsolete.

We need a variety of useful ships, not a couple of overbuffed ships to replace all others.

I’d be fine with a battleship-sized hauler class to fit the gap between haulers and freighters. T1 with a jump-capable T2 version.

Finding that balance is what a dev gets paid for.

I like the basic concept. A hauler around DST sized that could be modified to haul various item(s) and then balance that against cloaky/speed.

The Squall class would have been a good group to experiment doing this with.

They already experimented with it with the Squall class.

The Deluge is the first blockade runner with a specialized hold, for 45k m3 of infrastructure goods. And to be honest it is already too strong. The incredible safety of a nullified covert ops ship should not have been combined with a cargo hold that large.

What it meant for me is that I haven’t touched my Jump Freighter ever since the Upwell haulers have been added to the game.

I trained into that JF and bought it, the most expensive ship I have, to safely haul all the PI I produce in null sec to markets. But instead of a 10 billion ship I now use a 300 million ship for that role as it’s easier, safer and faster. Good for me? Definitely. Good for the game? I would say no.

CCP has to be very careful when they add new haulers with better stronger features, because it is very easy to invalidate other ships with power creep like that.

Sometimes its quite impossible to find a balance if all the abilities combined in one ship are simply too much.

I mean if the ships is “tankier” in the tank-configuration than a T2 Logi (Guardian) but also has a Logi-Combat Bonus, why should anyone use Logis any more? Especially since you can endlessly eat capbooster from the cargo? But if you reduce the HP to have less than a T2 Logi (around 65-75k eHP), then it becomes worse than a DST (~100-150k eHP) for hauling.

If you give it too much cargo, the’ll competely replace DTSs, but on the other hand if they then have too little tank, you can’t really use them because you get ganked left and right. Now give them more tank and again have problem #1: why should someone use Logis or ECMTengus any more if your T3 hauler can do a similar job and just hold up with remotereps in a fleet much better? Or you let them to the jobs much worse (like a lot less neuting, a lot less ECM, a lot less RR), then what good use is it at all? It wouldn’t benefit you in a combat situaiton at all, at least not enough to justify such an expensive hull. And it has to be expensive, else everyone would prefer those over Clokhaulers/DSTs anyway.

The balance of the T3Cruisers and T3Destroyers is already pretty fragile, but tbh thats all only combat focused. They still are designed to fight, just in different configurations. But you want completely different purposes: Combat, EWAR, Logi, Fleethangars, Big Cargo Hauling, Cloak Hauling all in one hull.

Make them a tad slower than current haulers, tankier than current haulers and 2-3x the hauling capacity of current haulers (non-specialized). T1 only for now - one per Empire.

Why can people not figure out how to play the game? To think out of the box? Get better at what they want to do?

Why do people want a ship that can do “everything” that is way too OP?

Is it because they cant play the game?
Is it because they dont have friends?
Is it because they dont/cant multibox for situations that might call for that?

I am really curious why these people make such ludicrous ideas and why a few others might support these ideas which in the long run are NOT good for the game at all.

This idea would further dumb down the game, in the long run make it more unattractive, reduce the playerbase numbers, encourage more multiboxing as CCP adds more gotcha monetiztion…

Just knock it off already. Learn to play, and if that is too much for you to do…then quit, cause that would be better than this proposal.
