To the capsuleers, alliances, and empires of the modern cluster.
Twenty-three years ago, I looked out into the lawless expanse of the primordial universe and saw a frontier that needed a shape. In those early days of 2003 and 2004, the stars were quiet, nameless, and untamed. There were no automated star-maps, no live data feeds, and no sovereignty frameworks to dictate who owned the night.
When Curse Alliance, Stain, and Fountain fought for the gates, “holding space” meant the cold reality of hulls on grid. Back then, I took it upon myself to manually gather your scout reports, trace your shifting borders by hand, and sketch the galaxy’s very first political maps. I gave a face to your early empires.
Then, I walked away to fight other battles and forge another path. For over two decades, my ship sat dark in the hanger bay, and the stars moved on without me.
A few weeks ago, a flicker of modern data caught my eye. I looked upon the staggering achievements of your modern cartographers—interactive, live-updating wormhole maps streaming WebSockets directly from the destruction of your hulls. I saw a galaxy mapped with a level of precision we could only dream of in the pioneer days.
The cartographer’s itch has returned. The stars are calling me back.
My legacy hull is officially uncloaking. I am returning to the pilot’s seat.
I am under no illusions. The New Eden I left behind is gone, replaced by a universe of Citadels, automated sovereignty, and strategic complexities that make my 2003 knowledge look like ancient history. I have to learn to fly all over again.
I do not return to claim space, nor do I return to lead armies. I return to wander, to master the scanning probes, and to see what it truly feels like to map this magnificent, dangerous galaxy from the cockpit of a cloaked frigate.
If you see my name flash in local chat, or if you catch my T1 exploration hull slipping through a wormhole, know that I am merely watching the universe turn.
The geography has changed, but the stars remain the same.
Fly safe, New Eden. Kalshrith is back.

On a real note: Hey everyone, it really has been over two decades. I’m completely rusty and trying to wrap my head around 23 years of expansions, UI overhauls, and meta shifts. I’m genuinely looking forward to getting back into the game, learning the modern scanning mechanics, and seeing how the community has grown. If anyone has recommendations for good beginner-friendly exploration corporations or essential third-party tools for a returning veteran, please let me know. See you out there!)
