Some of you might remember me, but most of you probably won’t. My name is Kalshrith.
Back in 2003 and 2004, during the absolute infancy of New Eden, I was obsessed with the geography of our lawless universe. Before automated tools, Verite maps, or Dotlan existed, I was the pilot who manually gathered scout intel, tracked border shifts via forum posts, and hand-drew the galaxy’s very first political and alliance influence maps.
I used to map out the old empires of Curse Alliance, Stain, and Fountain when “holding space” just meant keeping enough ships on a stargate.
I recently broke my two-decade silence to look at a thread showcasing a modern, live-updating interactive wormhole map. Seeing how far community developers have pushed cartography—streaming real-time WebSocket data from zKillboard—completely blew my mind. The mapmaker’s scratch started itching again, and I knew I had to come back.
I have officially resubscribed.
I know the universe has completely changed. My 2003-era knowledge of game mechanics is practically a museum exhibit now. I have to relearn how to fly, master scanning, figure out what a Citadel is, and adapt to a galaxy that is far more automated than the wild frontier I left behind.
My plan is to start small, blend into the background on a fresh clone, and dive headfirst into the scanning and exploration meta. I want to see what modern cartography feels like from the pilot’s seat.
If you see a highly confused, ancient pilot making terrible mistakes in a T1/2 exploration frigate, go easy on me. Or don’t—after all, it’s still EVE.
