The Like and Get Likes thread III

Wow, that looks like such a profitable business plan! Have they patented it? They wouldn’t want anyone just start planting seeds and getting corn for free, or have egg-pooping chicken meatballs roaming around, without paying for the patents! :money_mouth_face:

And now I’m off to bed and get some sleep. Nighties lovelies!

Also: an introduction to the Chinese space station Tiangong…

The sleeping pods look comfy, and the porthole is a nice touch (I guess they can just block it in case the sun shines through it…)

Unfortunately, some plants have been patented. In some countries big corporations sue farmers for planting and replanting patented plants.

Also: Art AIs are born from the massive theft of copyrighted art…

…and good luck getting your rights back if you’re a graphical artist and someone stole your artwork for “research” and then trained an AI to sell copyrighted imitations of your art(!).

(And just wait until someone creates something controversial through an AI and distributes it pretending to be original artwork from an artist, destroying his or her reputation before people notice it’s a fake…)

That a really big stretch. What artist does is not different from AI work, First artist learns from other artist, and also by watching their works, searching for inspiration and in part imitation. If someone writes in style or paints in style, just by learning from watching and analysing the best works or nature, it isnt theft. If it would be, then every artist would have to stop showing their works and keep everything in the cupboard. Ideas cant be patented or copyrighted, and AI works on ideas itself, crumbling a lot of works and deriving the idea from it. Idea that is trained into neural network.

Cant really steal something public for research, either by artist or researcher when Its visual representation is videly available in network. Watching and analysing isnt stealing.

pretending to be original artwork

First it would have to get physical representation, not digital. To be considered an original work of famous artist with great reputation.

Now everyone can generate digital art, but try painting something yourself, its like getting vase painted by an artist, in only one piece in entire world. Its unique, and its an asset. AI doesnt have reputation yet because it cant really paint, only generates digitally.

If they hook up robot arm to an AI and tell it to learn paint like great masters, it could be like getting that artist paint it for you. Then it would be possible to be falsyfying a painting, but there are labs that of course research paintings, the paint itself, the foundation etc… as people of course were falsyfying paintings already.
Personally I think that artist that cant create their works by actually holding the brush in hand, or a pen, or a pencil, isnt really an artist, its only a slightly creative job done by a considerably skilled worker.

I dont consider myself an artist for that reason. I dont even have a pencil.

Also: spaceship sizes, now with more spaceships!

They’re kind enough to include three EVE Online spaceships/stations… turns out that keepstars are 160 km tall?

That Xeelee thing at the end, its quite out there. The Xeelee are quite astonishing even for sci-fi.

Stephen Baxter have very fertile imagination.

Had anyone thought about how long it would take for the very largest of spaceships to slow down if speed of light was achievable?

(don’t upvote me, my comment was derived from reading & just on my mind when watching that clip above)

Kudos to the video for including Red Dwarf! Actually the video has almost all ships in it. I’m also grateful for it not making an overused Bobby Kotick paycheck joke at the end.

Timezone.

… or when becomes a game a scam through over-engineering the revenue model

But one can beat the system, if one has a degree in an other type of engineering, apparently. At the very least, watching the successes of these gods gives us mortals a sense of justice served. From the guy who invented the glitter bomb to catch thieves:

“Experience Games”. Something EVE used to be…

Experience games dont pay because people need skills, and the other kind is you just need luck. Everyone can get luck, while not everyone have skills, and the skills posessed and able to be reached by individual may not be enough for the level of gameplay. That is why they added hypernodes and hypernet. To make more money.
