Also: because, Picasso

Photograph: Pablo Picasso poses for the camera, with a camera. Barcelona, Spain, 1962 by André Villers

With a camera… and two watches? Why? Because, Picasso.

Bonus: also Barcelona, 1962

The Great Snow of 1962. Nobody who lived it has forgotten it (certainly not my parents and grandparents). For a city used to get about one milimeter of snow each ten years, those 15-50 cm were the event of the century. It started snowing on Chistmas day and kept snowing until Boxing day

Double bonus: not Barcelona, but not too far, on september 25th of 1962

The Vallés floods. Between 617 (offficially) and above 1,000 dead since the dictatorship wasn’t exactly thrilled with accounting the actual magnitude of the disaster.

1962 was a crazy weather year around my corner of the woods…

Also: we’ll never know…

Photograph: “New York (woman with milk bottles)” by Helen Levitt, ca. 1945

Was she mocking the very pregnant woman looking at her over the shoulder? Was she just fooling around with the bottles and the smart-eyed photographer took a chance of doing a funny shot? Helen Levitt mastered the art of shooting people -mostly newyorkers- in the wild, unfiltered and unexpected… “Yo, yo, look at my jugs…!”
