Last night I had a dream even weirder than my usual, exactly the fifth or maybe sixth erotic dream I’ve had in all my life (they are so rare that I count them, yes). Other than the topic it wasn’t freaky, which I count as a bonus given the shĀ”t my brain has been throwing my way for the last four years… and now I’m off to bed to sleep a hopefully dreamless night. Night night lovelies!

Also: your grandma’s grandma played the theremin better than you, so beat it

Alexandra Stepanoff plays the theremin live on NBC radio, 1930.

I wonder what’s that leather-like thing she’s wearing over the dress… some kind of apron maybe? But why?

You’re obsessed with other people’s grandma’s grandmas.

Fantastic.

I don’t think it’s leather. Looks like satin to me, part of the dress.

Not at all. Also, it’s not my fault if your ancestor women were cooler than you.

And now I’m off to bed. Night night lovelies!

Also: your grand-grandmother once met Mickey Mouse in Disneyland and survived mostly unscathed…

Disneyland in the 1950s… Let’s say that it was early in the anthropomorphization process of Mickey, OK? (Not that the little piggy on the left couldn’t fuel a few nightmares on its own, too…)

They probably were. My aim never was to be cool, it was to get some

Call the cops! There’s a weirdo in a cartoon costume and a child next to him.
Oh look, there’s a bunny looking at a woman. Call the cops!
There’s a mouse with big eyes, call the cops!

You mean LSD… call the cops!!

The discovery of three to four floors buried underground may sound like an incredible find, but in reality, it is the Porta Nigra, a remarkable Roman structure located in Trier, Germany. The Porta Nigra, meaning ā€œBlack Gateā€ in Latin, is an ancient city gate that dates back to the 2nd century AD. It stands as one of the best-preserved examples of Roman architecture in the world and has long been a symbol of Trier’s rich history. The gate, originally built as part of the city’s fortifications, was later used as a church and underwent various modifications over the centuries.

The structure’s burial beneath the earth is due to changes in the surrounding landscape over time. As Trier expanded, the city’s ground level gradually rose, eventually covering parts of the gate. What remains visible today is only the upper portion of the Porta Nigra, while the lower floors were once hidden beneath layers of soil and sediment. Archaeological excavations have uncovered the full extent of the gate’s construction, revealing the hidden floors that had been buried for centuries.

Today, the Porta Nigra stands proudly as a testament to Roman engineering and the city of Trier’s historical significance. Visitors can explore its ancient walls and take in the views of the city from the top. The uncovering of the hidden floors only adds to the intrigue and historical importance of this magnificent structure, offering a glimpse into the past and the architectural prowess of the Roman Empire.
