Awesome!!
Best of luck.

if it helps move the game forward, im all for it.
Does this mean we might finally see missions expanded upon?
New features with Python 3…
Return of Walking in Stations?
dammit jim im an electrican not a…
In the short term, nothing, and that is by design.
…
Noticing nothing at all is the goal, and you are the ones helping us reach it.

EVE has not been as unstable and poorly performing as it has in the past months. Your regular downtime issues, increasing number of gameplay issues that require E-DTs or hotfixes and a number of other things are definitely noticeable.
Let’s hope this improves again and indeed becomes “unnoticeable”.
respectfully.. ■■■■ no.
No matter my attempts to provoke people, this post wins the thread by a large margin. I laughed hard.
Please, share some technical difficult you guys encounter during the migration of this giant, prehistory shi_t mountain. It will make very interesting reading material .
PS: Have your guy ever consider about restructure the code? lol
Not that kind of feature. The new features in Python 3 is the renaming of functions and such things that makes it a hassle migration to Python 3 instead of just running the Python 2 code on the Python 3 interpreter.
The Python crowd has very clearly shown they are just in the “update” business, to create an eternal loop of having to migrate between versions. This is good for Python programmers never running out of work. Bad for companies as their python programmers can never get anything but migrations done. And really bad for consumers that has to pay the bill.
CCP should spend the time ditching Python, not migrating between Pythons. Python is fundamentally broken (and no its not the whitespace, whitespace matters in programming languages I can name, although there was someone that once did one where it didn’t). It is the completely illogical “some copies are copies, some are pointers and some are some copy and a few pointers” and the lack of static typing fx.
The lack of static typing is part of the other reason CCP should go to a real programming language, as this is a part of why Python is like 10 times slower than Rust and C someone mentioned up higher.
well from what i understand, they use C++ and python together, and thats what makes the beauty of EVE online.
On a serious note, for people that think FC is wrong, they are not.
This is necessary to bring AI, the code is so messy AI is not performing.
You can find my old post explaining technical debt cannot be avoided, at least they realized it, it only took a decade… ![]()
They arent bringing AI to EVE yet..
There’s no need for AI in this game.
AI in EVE, according to Ratatti would be difficult as EVE doesnt have an endpoint as regular games nor a point where it resets. Then there is the behavior of humans.
when we give players tools to deal with their own problems and then see what they do with them. Any intelligent system we might consider in the future would have to follow the same principle. It should operate within the world, respect its constraints and create more meaningful decisions for players rather than removing them.
If something we explore cannot provide clear value to players, or if it undermines the agency and consequences at the heart of EVE, then it does not belong in Tranquility
@CCP_Swift tell me if im wrong, but would updating to python 3 also help with say the randomness of missions? Getting the same mission 3-4 times in a row is not fun, nor is it when its every other mission we get the same one.
Funny thought: just imagine the possibilities if the transition somehow messed up the random number generator. Always getting the same exact mission, your weapons either always missing or always hitting, always rolling good on abyssal mutaplasmids or always terrible results, and so on. ![]()

Randomness is random, it’s unlikely to give you each different mission in order and much more likely to give you one mission multiple times and totally skip another mission if you do a bunch of missions in a row.
Throw a die 6 times and see if it hits all the 6 numbers once. And repeat it a few times. You’ll see that hitting all 6 numbers equally is much less likely than hitting one of the numbers multiple times while missing others.
If you ask for a more equal spread what you are asking for is reduced randomness.
