The real reasons player population is declining

It’s actually not, but my point was that he can’t claim they don’t prove anything, and then use them to make a claim that they prove something.

EVE’s numbers rose consistently for a decade, and you have to remember, it came out a year before WoW did, so WoW’s numbers were absolutely not declining while EVE’s were rising. That is just complete bulldust.

Except that CCP is not MacDonalds and EVE is not a happy-meal.

Seriously, this are two completely different business models and they can’t be compared this way.

That’s okay, it’s normal to be afraid.

You really want proof that Macca’s and EVE are two completely different products with different markets, models, and business structures? Really?

Do you want proof that water is wet as well? Maybe some evidence that you have ten fingers?

If you are here for one ship you are doing it wrong.

You should be here for the sandbox experience. Which will entail using different ships as opposed to focusing on just one ship.

My belief is that the game has gotten less ruthless which has made the game boring for many players.

I dunno, is it really declining? I’m not talking about the Eve is Dying rants for 10 years now. Is the pop really declining? I blame that really one fat and bald british CCP Dev, i forgot his name. He will literally remove my posts or ban my alts from the forums all the time. He is literally the thought police and disregards all dissenting opinions. I will never support CCP until he is reprimanded or fired.

TBH, I wouldn’t mind EvE’s population declining by one.

May your alts post eternally. I count on you for keeping this man employed and forums running.

Wow, I could either read this ridiculous wall of text, or go read the entire Bible. Wait no, instead I think I will go play the game and have a good time with friends.

And, yet, you don’t see that as EVE’s problem? or as validation of what the OP is saying? This is what the game looks like when it presents itself to a new player, this is what the game looks like in its “…first layer…”

How’d this person manage to write this and NOT see the immediate contradiction???

Its actually pretty common in the gaming industry. The people who try a product but don’t stay with it far and away outnumber the people who stick with a product. For example there is a successful ARPG that regularly has what it calls “leagues”. If you cite the total number of people who participate in these leagues its really quite large. However, if you cite the number of people who participate to the half way point in the league the number drops by at least a whopping 80%! And, if you cite the number of people that stay with it to the end and complete the league that number drops to less than 1%!!! And, as everyone on their forums points out, there are two ways to read a graph of numbers like this. You can say: The number of players is at an all time high! or you can say: Only a small number of people are into this!

Such numbers do NOT reflect the quality of the game.
The numbers of subscribers do NOT reflect the number that is being retained. The numbers of subscribers only matter when you are talking about how much Money CCP is making. and like I keep saying, CCP could be making more money from people who try the game for 2 months then they do from people who have been playing the game for 10 years! (and what about the long time players that are plexing their accounts???)

First of all, the numbers DO reflect the number of people playing and the amount of money CCP are making. The numbers given at EVE-offline account for the turnaround you’re speaking about, and provide means and medians, so you’re completely wrong.

Secondly, while CCP aren’t making money directly from people who plex their account, they’re still making money from the people who buy the plex in the first place. This is a non-argument, and you should learn how the game works before you speak again and accidentally jam another foot in your mouth.
