I am trying to write my backstory but I’m getting really really confused with the lore timeline.

When did the Minmatar Elder spirits first appear?

Did the First or Second Empire Jove ever make contact with Minmatar?

The Elders achieved paramount authority over the First Empire, but they developed their Static philosophies to an extreme that brought about the fall of the very empire they were trying to preserve. This failure weighs heavily on the Elder faction’s collective conscience, and while they do continue to argue their view, Elders rarely take an active role in Jovian politics anymore.(It should be noted that there is no relationship between this Jovian faction and the Minmatar spiritual leaders known as “elders.”) Jove | EVE Universe

Is the above quote true…or has thousands of years of history distorted the truth?

Ancient history. It’s not documented beyond “the time of the first empire” in Source, but you can basically assume they’re as old as the tribes.

Not officially. Unofficially it’s sometimes implied that the first Elders may have been Jovian (or at least in contact with the Jovians), much the same as the Sefrim in Amarrian history are implied to have been. Either way the answer is not known in character, and a Matari would likely be offended by the idea, since the Elders represent the spirit of their tribes and core communal identity. Even if the First Elders and the Sefrim were from outer space, there’s little to suggest they’d be specifically Jovian. They may as well have been the enheduanni, or triglavian, or talocan, etc.
