Training Booster Megathread

CCP is probably doing the pricing as market research, finding the right balance between cheap offers that 100k accounts buy versus expensive offers that only 5k accounts buy.

If you accept that, I’m not going to try and change your mind.

I’ll just say that market forces can certainly work in real life just as they do in the game. If no one bought this package at the current price, it would send a message. The next time it was offered, the price would be much lower.

If I spend $40, I can save 25 days on my training queue. But if I spend $100, I can save 60 days, but only if I remap my attributes and then use a booster. No wait, the booster only comes with the $40 special SP pack, so I need to buy that and not remap my attributes. Then I can buy PLEX and get skill injectors. No, that won’t work because the effect of skill injectors diminishes with the number of skill points so I need to buy skill injectors first, then use the special SP pack. But the special SP pack is only for a limited time.

I am enjoying thinking about how to optimize my purchases for having the most skill points. It is exciting to me to think about having more skill points. This is fun gameplay.

My payment initially failed so I i have another card
option BUT offer disappears saying “Offer already Taken” !!

Visiting the forums is like watching a long series. “Santa Barbara” for example (it lasted how many? 15 years?).

You mostly know every person you see, you know the story and you simply enjoy some development happening around.
What new screw ups will developers do? How mad will be the players?
What about storyline? What about wars?

EvE Online might be dead for me as a game but the forums still deliver. :+1:

I’m not a huge fan of the precedent this creates; I’d really rather not see ‘SP Packs’ where a 2 day old player can start a character with 20 mil SP. Those kinds of players tend to be a net-negative on the game, losing a few hugely expensive ships before they know what they’re doing and quitting shortly after.

The difference between SP Packs and skill injectors is that the former is basically CCP advertising mass-skill injecting as a viable method of starting the game. This is something that most players (myself included) will tell you is a bad way to start off the game, and leads to players flying things that are above their knowledge level, and ultimately quitting early.

If they were going to quit anyway, this sounds like a pretty good outcome for everybody else.

I can’t wait for dem +1 jump height and bonus affinity (rep?) gain bonuses on ship SKINS :upside_down_face:

I think people need to look at this in another way.

The cost of large skill point injectors at the moment is @ 760mil and with a high SP player only 150,000 SP.

So 1.5mil SP will cost you 10x large skill injectors.
That based on the 760mil price will cost 7.6bil isk.
Current plex to isk is 2 5mil per plex.
Which converts with current rates to 3020plex.
Which is more than the standard $39.99 plex pack.

Now the accelerator.
Default run time is 12days 12hours, at a +8 attribute, the equivalent in master-in-arms would require 8 with its default +10 attribute and 24hous run time.

current MIA cost around 160mil.
So to match the package accelerator it'll cost 512plex.

Now as others noted, throw in level 5 biology and the little used biology implants, the package can be pushed out to 27day 23hours, which with the same skills and implants would cost you an extra 2 MIA to match increase the cost of MIA to 640plex.

costs:
1.5mil sp 3020plex *(current conversion rates)*
Accelerator 512-640plex *(depending on skills/implants)*
Total 3532-3640plex. @ $135.68-$136.75
*(based of below packages)*

### 2,860 PLEX *(2,200 + 660 FREE)* $99.99
### 1,100 PLEX *(880 + 220 FREE)* $39.99

So $34.99 cost vs a estimated value of $99.99-$136.75 is over priced?

I think some people just love to complain just for the hell of it.

I think some people are missing the fact that not long ago CCP/PA were selling 1,000,000 SP for the sum of $5. Now they doubled the SP but upped the price by a whopping 800%.

And the miracle is CCP doesn’t even need to justify it. They have people like you to do it for them.

Ah yes, the “justified fanboyism” phenomenon.
Where players that have no connection to the development team fight their damnedest to give people they’ll never meet excessive levels of money simply because they don’t want a currently existing game to “die out” while not knowing the exact logistics of what it would take for said company and game to “die out”.

It’s exactly what ruined games like Warframe as any criticism is eventually seen as a threat to the “instable balance” of the games financial future, even though they are backed by a multibillion dollar company.

What?

Blatant fanboyism kills games the same way the star wars prequels were ■■■■. Lack of criticism, lack of feedback, and echo chambers lead to the dwindling of good and/or productive changes in paranoid fear the game will die because of it.

FIFY .

Your math is wrong.

You calculation worth of 1.5kk SP based on injectingg, not extracting. and based on extracting it’s only 3 injectors.

You’re misunderstanding the purpose of the calculation. They are comparing cost of acquiring 1.5m SP via this pack to acquiring the same amount of usable SP via Large Skill Injectors. Large Skill Injectors have diminishing returns based on current SP total on the injecting character, so the effective injected SP value is the appropriate comparison point, not the extracted SP value. (All LSI have the same extraction cost, regardless of redeeming character, so that is a non-issue when comparing the scenarios.) This pack is objectively more valuable to players who suffer diminished SP value from injectors, as they get more SP for their money than buying PLEX to convert to ISK and acquire LSIs.

Yeah, I have long been surprised that people buy skill injectors. They are crazy expensive. But people do. The people that do shouldn’t pass up 1.5 mil for $40. I’ll just wait a month for $10 and train naturally.

While glossing over buying a three month sub for the same price and getting three times the SP this bundle offers as well as actual game time.

If someone can afford to wait 3 months, absolutely, the Omega time is cheaper. If they need the skills immediately, however, comparing vs an omega subscription is pointless.

One month. Three months would be three booster packs.

In any case, if you can’t wait a month for a skill to complete in a game you’ve been playing from less than a year to over a decade, perhaps an MMO is not the genre for you.

I don’t know how the game managed to hang on to a higher player population than it has now for all the years it had no SP packs. Or skill queues. Or skill boosters. Or extractor/injectors. Or PLEX. Or Alphas. Or any type of DLC or loot giveaways. Or a dozen more things that made the game infinitely more engaging than it is now.

It’s almost like the more you dumb it down, the less people want to stick around. Even newbs. They jump in, buy a bunch of ■■■■, get bored and leave. Back in the day people would leave, but it was never from the boredom that comes with having everything handed to them.
