Upwell Cloak Jammer

Lest make cloaky campers work for it/ like cyno jammers but cloak focused

Only if while it is active no one in the system can rat, mine, fire weapons, warp unless they are a covert ops ship, launch drones, salvage, pick up cargo, take a gate…
Because those are just some of the restrictions cloaked ships are already under.

Fly in a fleet, have a cyno fit and friends ready to counter drop. Thats how you make an afk cloaker work for it.

A cloak fatigue mechanic would be a better solution if you want to do something. Cloak too long and there is a timer that prevents a recloak till the fatigue is over.

Think Space AIDS v2. Stealth bombers, etc would just have reduced accumulation bonuses, etc

Redundant thread is redundant.

If AFK cloakers are a problem in your space, then you don’t really control your space.

You answered your own post, cyno jam them. They become harmless.

Unless you are just afraid to undock when anyone is around.

There is no fix for Pixel Fear :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

@ISD_Sakimura “Cloaky Cleanup Isle 9” :slight_smile:

The original concept for Upwell structures introduced by CCP Ytterbium included an Observatory Array:

Dedicated to intelligence gathering.

  • Service module possibilities : Being able to increase, decrease or block Star Map filters in the solar systems they’re deployed, act as solar system wide D-scan blockers, disrupt ship intelligence in the solar system, take over player tracking capabilities from NPC agents or be able to affect or pinpoint cloak users. We are considering basing their effectiveness through a network coverage (like cell phones) so that a single one may not be that useful, but maintaining a bunch of them in space could give a significant advantage.
  • Rigs possibilities : anything affecting the duration or effectiveness of what’s mentioned above.

I’d say nice mechanic would be to send a pulse across the system , that disrupts the cloaking systems of all cloaked ships for a few minutes, unless they decloak in time not to get hit. Obviously this has to have some systemwide readable clue on when it will hit so that active cloakers can work their way around it by dropping cloak in time and recloaking

Yes but why?

Just like every other change, there has to be a purpose.

Since cynos are now jammed who cares about a cloaked ship?

It is a pointless change, use cyno jammers.

As before, so this pulse disrupts every other activity a cloaked ship cant do right…
For every single ship in system

Make it an anchorable structure with a 5km radius and we’re good. It’d be enough for you to catch them on an outgate when they aren’t AFK and they follow you into a different system. Assuming you’re not smart enough to put stop bubbles and jetcans on the outgate already. If they’re cloaky nullified, they’re slow and easy enough to catch already.

I see what you are trying to say, but no, it doesn’t.
There should be some balance limitations ofc. Like a cooldown and fuel usage.
There is a warning you can actually see in advance and just turn the cloak off-on and continue with your shenanigans. Assuming you are actually not sitting there AFK in a cloaked ship just to piss of the locals

Wait hold on, that sounds more like “working as intended”. The boogieman is there to get you.

We are getting to the true root issue.

The cloaked ship can’t DO ANYTHING, the problem is purely an EMOTIONAL issue.

You can’t fix PIXEL FEAR.

So you have to sit at your cloaked ship perfectly split second aware for hours, while they can just turn up, press a button whenever they want and decloak you.
How exactly does this seem reasonable.

The whole point of a cloak is to make you safe at the cost of being able to do pretty much any action. So you can actually walk away from the computer for a few minutes (assuming you are at a safe etc and alone on grid).
The only reason “AFK Cloaking” is a worry at all is because of local. Notice how no-one ever complains about AFK Cloakers in WH’s, because it’s not the AFK Cloakers you have to worry about. It’s the one actually at keyboard who is the scary one.

Good point. That’s because people in WHs are more willing to take risk or they woudn’t live there  I wouldn’t actually mind removing the local alltogether (being a WH dweller myself , hehe), but I doubt CCP will do that any time ever

The whole AFK cloak thing is just made up, literally.

People say “AFK Cloaking” because they somehow think that being AFK makes it worse, AFK is not illegal in this game, AFK it is irrelevant at best.

It is not illegal, the person has done nothing wrong and is not in need of punishment or balance. The person in fact has done nothing at all.

The REAL PROBLEM is people who will not play unless they are alone in a system, many of them BOTs the rest simply afraid to undock.

If the cloaked person is preventing a BOT, awesome!
If the cloaked person is preventing someone who is afraid, there is no cure for pixel fear.

So in summary, people who complain about AFK Cloakers are either BOTs or Pixel Cowards :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
