Vanguard EAC Request

Still getting the same here, as well.

Vanguard Discord is now up, if anyone wants to get info that is where it will be at. It’s already been asked of CCP whether Linux-friendly EAC is in the cards, upvoting is an option if you want to show support for the inquiry:

I just played Vanguard for a good 30 minutes. I’m very lost.
Just like last month, the initial connection was kicked back out due to Anti-cheat and net disconnect. Just simply hit connect again and I was in.

I’ve been bad at FPS for years…but this is sort of like eve … more complicated than most. Very lost.

Glad I checked this thread again. Same. I’m lost too, but I’d rather be lost than out.

Worst part isn’t even being unable to participate – it’s the dang radio silence from CCP and literally every game developer in modern history when asked this question. It’s a really toxic norm not to say “no, we’re not working on this right now, and here’s why,” or even “yeah, we heard you, but we don’t have an answer to that.”

I’m glad something changed for the better; but I’m sad the change happened unannounced, in the dark, and in furtherance of that miserable trope. It feels a bit like being snuck a treat while being shushed.

Not to be ungrateful. I suspect my gratitude and my frustration are respectively meant for different groups of people. Oh, well. Thanks for letting us in. It’s nice.

From a developer standpoint, I can see the desire of limiting complications in a pre-alpha game. A number of bug reports would have to be discounted out of hand, even if they’re valid, because CCP isn’t currently supporting linux and investigating bug reports that turn out to be linux-specific is a waste of dev time. In a pre-alpha playtest, limit the amount of variables to make things as streamlined for the bug shooters as possible.

My OP was made from a player standpoint. It’s a new shiny, I want to enjoy it. I’ve gotten to load up onto a Windows machine a couple times throughout the process, including the current playtest, and try it out; it’s cool! Me likez shineez, gimme moarz.

So how to play Vanguard on steam deck? How to download?

Vanguard isnt playable. Just has playtests when needed.

If you already. Have eve on steamdeck then you should see an option to create a vanguard character. Or not idk it may not be available for steamdeck

At the end of the last public playtest, there was some talk on the roadmap about Vanguard starting to make some noise in November, and opening up on Steam as an Early Access game at some point a little later. No news on whether CCP will, at that point, have made the EAC wine-friendly.

CCP doesn’t need to support Linux.
It only needs to support Wine/Proton.
It wouldn’t be a big burden on them, and I imagine it would add an appealing point to their platform on Steam, so why isn’t it going through?

I never thought it would be so hard to get “just a few clicks.”

Still no EAC checked for linux :disappointed_relieved:

EAC support on Linux would be nice later down the road.

Still no EAC for Linux. This is saddening. Well then i gotta play some Cyberpunk 2077 on my Linux Box again as i am not going to install Windows for this Game.

There are so many games out there, and I have limited number of hours in my life - I just skip at all games using kernel-level anticheats.

That’s why I’m not planning to play Vanguard, despite the fact I was riding the first wave of excitement when CCP announced it (I love FPS and MMO). And I encourage you people to do the same. Not complain, not flame, not argue - just respect your time and nerves, and just ignore Vanguard, and have fun somewhere else

Still waiting for CCP to support Proton, only game in my entire steam library that doesn’t work via Compatibility → force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool → Proton Hotfix. and hitting Play.

This is a common misconception. CCP doesn’t support Proton as it is software belonging to Steam and not CCP. That would be like asking Tim Horton’s to make the cream better in your coffee. They are a coffee shop and a dairy.

Asking any game company for better support is okay. These days most game companies farm the support out to low bid contractors. I know back in 2001, India took all my contracts from a rather large client. However Proton is supported by Steam and no one else is allowed to touch it.

This is one reason I run many games through either the default Wine from the Linux OS distro or the WineHQ distro. I first started this account on Steam but dropped the launcher after performance issues. I am unaware of any other process for running EAC through Wine other than Steam’s launcher. Even with omega, I won’t be able to play test Vanguard.

I understand you there. The issue at present with the anticheat software is a double edged sword. Sure it detects people cheating, but since it works like an antivirus program, it picks up false positives as well. It is still up to a human to process the EAC logs and figure out who is who. I would hate to see them automatically ban users based on the output logs. Cheaters are also getting more advanced using 2 machines now to cheat. One is dirty and the other PC is clean. The clean PC plays the game and streams it to the dirty PC. The dirty PC sends keyboard and mouse data via USB to the clean PC. There are some that use only hardware and not software cheats. For example; EAC cannot scan your PC for a robotic mouse using a webcam to read the screen.

All that will become more available to the public at large. Companies like EAC will build a better shield and the cheaters build a better sword. Meanwhile the honest players get nuked in the middle of their war.

Fly safe o7

“misconception” every other game seems to manage getting steams software to work. so idk what’s faulty about my logic. windows 10 support ends October 14, 2025, and I’m not messing with Wine, i’m a user using Ubuntu. even as far as dead zombie mmos without a active dev team go goes ccp is failing, i’m playing Everquest right now and it runs fine by just pressing 1 button

so idk what Proton not being CCP’s software has to do with literally anything my guy.

Steam and EVE is usually a not so great option. I guess you don’t play EVE then or if so, you don’t play it as it is meant to be if you singlebox it with Steam…

That’s how I play Eve. Loading in can take a while, but once the client is open I haven’t had any issues out of the ordinary. The most boxing I have done is two accounts at once, though, so not exactly a stress test.

I don’t use Proton Hotfix, though; finding the right version of Proton definitely takes some finagling on a fresh install. I’m currently on Proton Experimental.

That sort of thing didn’t stop many people and companies from using Windows XP to this day and support ended 2010 or 2011, I think as late as 2015 with extended support. People will continue to use Windows 10 far beyond the expiration date. Windows 11 is due to be “replaced” soon as MS is going to reveal Windows 12 later this year.

You are asking CCP to support software meant to run Windows programs on Linux. CCP does not support Linux OS. They only claim, as many others do, the game functions on Linux OS because it is made available.
Here on WineHQ database EVE Online is rated as Gold. This means you still need special tweaks to operate it. Meanwhile Vanguard is considered as a separate entity and rated Garbage, meaning it won’t run at all. Both were last tested on Wine 8.21-staging.
You brought up Everquest. Assuming you mean 1999 original version, it is rated Platinum, as you said no issues. However looking at Everquest II, the game version varies from Garbage, Bronze, Silver, and Gold.

These ratings are not on how the game performs on Windows but how the game performs on Linux under Wine. CCP isn’t going to make changes to their Windows game to support a Wine issue.

I think you could have stated; I can run Apex Legends flawlessly on Steam, but when I attempt to play Vanguard there is an issue and it should be looked into by all the respective parties. CCP is not going to do much other than lip service, because they are not EA, their game is working on the recommended Windows OS. EAC is going to tell you that EAC works as intended on Steam, and Steam is going to tell you, Proton functions for many of the games they host but not all.

Personally, I would love to see a company make a 100% Linux game client. They refuse to see any profit in doing that sort of thing. Even Valve has stopped making Linux games since 2013. It is sad, they are unable bend over to pick up 50,000 dollars off the floor.

Since the NDA has been lifted a bit, I can finally say it!

In current open Fanfest build/playtest, Vanguard on Linux works wonderfully - as it always had (minus EAC).

The EVE Vanguard dev team is well aware of the Linux community wanting to play it. But they’re a small team, not comprable with EVE Online dev team, so they have to pick their priorities right, and follow corporate direction before doing extra work for an unsupported OS in this very early development stage product.
