I’m a steam deck user and would really appreciate being able to play this on steamos. I just started a topic on my experiences playing on the steam deck.
Ccp. Please enable eac Linux option.

In a perfect world, every station in EVE would be an instance of Face of Mankind. But, until that happens I will take what I can get.
still same issue. after 2 minutes of playing → EAC auth error
Please just remove EAC, it’s pointless!!!
Hacking into Kernel Anti-Cheats: How cheaters bypass Faceit, ESEA and Vanguard anti-cheats
I tried some launch options like PROTON_EAC whatever and got nowhere. Anybody else have any luck this weekend?
On the bright side the game loads and goes in just fine…but yeah the connection is cut a minute in.
I hope this issue could be resolved for us in Vanguard. So far the same symptoms connection is cut in a minute.
We know what is causing it and how to resolve it (We also have confirmed that CCP knows).
Now we just need to wait until it is fixed
I’m getting really bloody sick of watching every game developer ignore this when they go to implement EAC, almost as though they’re all forced to implement it with absolute minimum effort because of what an objective waste of their own time it is.
Only, it’s a waste of our time, too; either implement it with the use of the one conscious brain cell that is required to update your build pipeline configuration or remove it.
I’m also really, really sick of the misinformation being spread – by individuals who are not experienced in the software industry – about how much effort this requires. Implementing EAC at all required actual code changes in their server and client software and who knows how many pipeline changes and integration tests; simply allowing the most technically experienced players in the EVE community participate is a single build option that CCP can choose to validate or not.
Has anyone tried the current March’s Vanguard Playtest on Linux? I’m thinking about subscribing just to try it, but I’d be pretty bummed if I found out I can’t play anyway, just because I’m on Linux.
EDIT: Reportedly, there was no change and it’s still not working, according to someone on Discord. But I didn’t verify it first hand, since I won’t be resubscribing.
Can confirm, still kicking me out upon entering the match
It’s not working for me at the moment. I got kicked out due to lack of anti-cheat.
Im not going to jump through hoops to try to get it working. If it doesn’t work out of the box, i wont play it.
There are no hoops to jump through, sadly. It’s up to developers to enable EAC for linux, after that it should work automatically. Everything else would just be messing around with EAC and circumventing it, which might trigger account ban.
Im just saying, if there were hoops, i wouldnt jump through them. It will either work or it wont and im not playing the game till it does.
Im not switching to windows to try it out for example.
March playtest window…still won’t acknowledge the installed and running anti-cheat that is supposedly a requirement.
CCP … I would like to be as excited to have an eve related simple FPS as you guys. My frustration over the last console only version is now equally matched by the failure to click “enable linux clients” tickbox.
In todays’ Live2Feed I got a reply from CCP representative in chat, they will bring up the fact that we asked for it. No promises were given, but hopefully it will put our issue on the radar for the next playtest
Just to throw my two cents.
I do understand a dev’s concern with enabling it before full release, to keep complexity down, however. I am sure the small but enthusiastic Linux community would gladly do community support in finding workarounds for bugs, if they are allowed to. CCP can just say they do not guranteesupport when running under linux.
And if it shows that it is used for cheating, then CCP would have some sort of justification about it.
So you are saying that Vanguard is still not running under Linux?
How disappointing
Thanks god PlanetSide 2 is working nicely under Linux so this is easy to compensate.
Some of us need to use a real FOSS operating system, and have also paid for EVE for many years. These two things do not need to be incompatible these days (indeed; for the one minute that the game runs, Vanguard plays beautifully).
It’s beyond frustrating to be so casually disenfranchised.
Today seems a slight improvement?
Anti-cheat failed me out the first attempt. All subsequent attempts didn’t complain about anti-cheat, but instead ran around for a minute and then it said my authentication timed out.
I verified applicable network logs…it isn’t me blocking anything.
Maybe I’m wrong but it doesn’t seem like the same error now.
As long as we get this, CCP has not ticked the “EAC for Linux” box
