No response to my tickets from them either - have suspended my subscription as they are unlikely to refund/extend subscription if they can’t even respond to a ticket - even a “we are still looking into it, and will get back to you asap” would be nice!!!
The launcher still hangs when you try to exit it. This has been going on for months. I just installed Eve on a brand new Mac out of the box with nothing else on it and the launcher freezes on exit.

Okay, so after a bunch of testing I have determined that if you try to quit the launcher using either CMD-Q or the Launcher’s drop-down menu - Quit it will freeze every time. If you close the launcher with the red “x” on the top left of the window it will take about 10 seconds but will shut down without freezing.
I’m at a loss to explain why these aren’t exactly the same, but there it is. If you’re frustrated by your launcher freezing when you try to quit it, try closing it with the button rather than CMD-Q or the menu.
I play 2d EVE whit flashing windows, well is not perfect but but at least I amuse myself
Thanks for the tip - saves the launcher freezing or having to force quit.
Hi
I know the black screen issue is very frustrating. We’ve been investigating it and have found a number of defects that could be causing it, some which almost looked the same, but turned out to have vastly different causes.
We’ve worked with a few players on a set of steps that helped them get back into the game.
Make sure you’re running the latest patch for your OS. There were important driver updates deployed by Apple for AMD based graphics cards a few months ago.
Remove the existing EVE install first. This will be in a path similar to
~/Library/Application Support/EVE Online/p_drive/Local Settings/Application Data/CCP
Failure to remove the existing install means the black screen issue may continue.
Reinstall EVE, but turn on the ‘Download the full EVE Game client’ option inside the launcher.
Once downloaded, run the game. You may see a black screen with a spinning circle at the bottom left. Press escape and this will be bypassed.
This should land you at the character selection screen.
If you still experience a black screen after this - please report back so I can follow it up. Just to reiterate: It’s really important that the existing install is removed. When we reproduced this internally, this was an important part of the fix.
Hi
I’m not part of the launcher team, but I’ve just looked at the patch notes for the beta. This makes reference to a possible fix for this.
If it’s causing a serious issue then consider opting into the latest beta for the launcher.
Thanks for the information - it’s great to know that we haven’t been forgotten.
I’m unsure how to opt into the beta though - a hint here would good.
Thanks again
Found it - I think - Lancher preferences
Still no joy
tried
Clean installation
Full download
Using Beta in Launcher settings
Graphics setting set to lowest possible
In station - works okay - (I had no black screen issues etc after a previous clean install)
Menus okay and responsive.
FPS okay at 40 - 60fps
Undocking into space
fps drops so much game is unplayable
Returning to station - fps is throttled - so have to quit and reload to continue.
Hi
Are all the client settings on lowest? I’d also try turning on “Run clients with DX9” in the launcher settings, although it should default to this.
Does changing the resolution / window mode change anything? Is the MacBook plugged into a power outlet? I know that Wine sometimes struggles when any sort of power saving kicks in.
This is going to be really difficult for us to debug. Officially we only support 10.13 and higher, and I don’t think we have any Macs going back to 2011 or machines that have older versions of MacOS on.
What’s the ticket number?
Thank you for this CCP Caffeine! The beta did indeed fix the problem with the launcher. Kudos!
Ticket No: 1243547
Graphic setting as low as I can get them
Tried DX9 / hardare accelerate off/ on etc
I’ll see about updating my OS - but not sure it’s an option on this machine.
Thanks
I’ve updated to osx 10.13.6
New installer
Clean install
Still not working properly outside station.
Hi CCP Caffeine,
I’ve tried following your advice and unfortunately it has made things worse. Before I was able to get into the game but had a black screen and couldn’t undock. After removing the Eve install, reinstalling, opting into the Beta launcher and saying download the entire game, set Run clients with DX9 in the launcher settings, but Wine won’t even launch. It just hangs after I click the Play button in the launcher although it’s busy consuming CPU looking at Task Manager. Switching to the Beta Wine doesn’t help either. Any suggestions?
I’m running MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2017, Four Thunderbolt 3 Ports) 3.1 GHz running MacOS 10.14.6.
Support ticket filed, #1255716
EVE Launcher for Mac doesn’t launch game client when using USB Mouse.
- Works with Wireless Mouse
- Works with Trackpad when USB Mouse is not connected
Issue: MacbookPro newer versions only support USB-C connections. Using an extension port device, regular USB connections can be established without any problem. EVE client works fine, but EVE Launcher will not not launch the game client when the play button pressed (play icon will highlight but no confirmation appears that the account has been added to launch queue). Using the trackpad will result in the same behaviour.
Workaround: Disconnect USB Mouse and use trackpad to add account to launch queue.
Note that nothing on the launcher works, including the NEWS, EVE Store links - they will show as selected but nothing will happen.

CCP any word on the fix for the world sound issue? Its been quite awhile without any turret/explosion sounds. the explosions are the best part of the game!
Still love EVE but would really like to hear the booms again.
been having the same exact issue since the update. been several weeks with no response from CCP that I can see regarding the sound issues.
I was happy to read your post but built-in trackpad vs. USB C+converter cable mouse didn’t make a difference for me. Game doesn’t launch either way…
