Version 19.08 - General Feedback

grafik
The clients need a lot of RAM.

Your patch notes need work.

  • Removed all variations of Arkonor & Bistot from deposit anomalies that have Mercoxit.

This can be read to mean that Arkonor and Bistot have been removed from any ore site that contains Mercoxit. This is obviously not the case, as this Potent Asteroid Cluster anomaly demonstrates:

However, the way you present it on the patch notes doesn’t make it clear that you’re using ‘deposit’ to refer to the specific subtype of ore anomaly, as distinct from the ‘Cluster’ type. This could be alleviated by adhering to the same presentation that the UI uses: capitalizing ‘Deposit’. The clearest presentation would read:

  • Removed all variations of Arkonor & Bistot from ‘Deposit’ sub-type Ore anomalies that have Mercoxit. This change does not impact ‘Cluster’ sub-type Ore sites.

My feedback: Remove the ability to click through the skill window.

I keep accidentally grabbing UI elements in the background and keep accidentally turning the camera when instead I want to move the skills window around. This happens because I can click through some parts of the skills window for some reason. This is very inconsistent with how other windows work in EVE.

Clicking through the skills window is possible at all the marked places in the next picture:

Alternatively, maybe rather than removing the ability to click through the marked parts, just remove the marked parts altogether? It’s all wasted screen space.

Have to say that I think the character sheet should allow me to hide the 3D character model. It causes crashes and a pretty big performance hit on both of my laptops. I had to go back to DX9 so that I could even open the character sheet at all and then enable low quality characters.

The skill window is too low density to display an amount of useful information and barely fits on a 1366x768 resolution laptop screen. Decrease the font size and icon size, increase the density of information, and why doesn’t it display the time it takes to train a skill to the next level anymore? The plan thing is a great idea though!

It seems like the UI changes put a priority on less useful, performance and reliability compromising visuals over information display. In EVE, we live and die based on good quality information. This is most certainly a step backwards in a bad way.

A bid to attract more and younger players, I expect.

Next thing you know, they’ll add living rooms to space stations and allow you to step out of your capsule.

Oh, wait…

Okay, to keep this short but still longer than “it sucks”: The new skill window/system sucks. Biggest issues:
-The developer(s) have decided everyone has lots of room in their screen, especially horizontally. Eve already has lots if windows, now i simply cannot open the skill window while in space as it would then block something crucial (local, intel chats etc)
-The icons and general theme looks like it’s designed for touchscreen. I have a mouse lol…
-The size of the icons / groups / skills means lot less information can be fit on the view now than before.

Dock the character sheet with any other window, then close the other window. Barbie is now gone.
It retains this hacked setting even if you close and re-open the character sheet. Just don’t re-size it too much or Barbie pops back into existence again.

One more annoyance… all others windows have a small white border around them, meaning you can see their border against black background. The new skill window is completely black, so you cant even see where window ends and background begins

Woot, thank you for this! Anyone know any hacks for the skill window?

The new character sheet… horrible design. The skills window… horrible design. I refuse to believe that it was made by anyone else than 12 years old wannabe programmer. Let’s hope whoever did it… is NOT getting paid for this crap.

I’m told Alt + F4

Copypasted from the other thread:

I don’t get it. CCP had plenty of people in this thread, and elsewhere, who clearly spent more care and effort than the current UI dev does, in making the skill sheet user-friendly, CPU/GPU friendly, with less wasted space and more thought put into what players would want.

Why did it turn out so terrible? Is the new UI dev another Icelander who refuses to listen to anyone off-island? Do we have to hire a local to present our ideas to CCP so the documented xenophobia towards anyone off-island doesn’t impact the work of the programmers?
Don’t get me wrong, the ability to share skill plans in-game (and im hoping done in a similar way to Overviews. still updating rip) is a QOL feature that, looking back, makes things much, much easier for getting new players into doctrine ships, or ratting ships, or core14. Rather than having them download EVEMon, or trying to explain what to do with the notepad file (“So, I drag and drop the file into my EVE window?”) being able to share the queues in a similar manner to channel links, bookmark folders, and overview settings, is very nice, and is in line with what they know already.

Thank you! You’re the best person EVER! That’s an incredibly useful tip until CCP can fix the character sheet problem by removing the 3D model.

WOW What can I say except sack your UI team what have they done seriously the new skills system is terrible I would right a long list of all the reasons why but all you have to do is read the comments above seriously guys what are you doing. Please revert it back or at least give us an option to chose if we want to use the new or old system.

You’re so original.

There is one, but you probably have it clicked to ignore/suppress.

If you bought a skill accidentally, put in a ticket and it will be reversed, and go in and make sure you revert that ignore.

Hello! We’ve seen some cases where people have accidentally injected skills because they had previously suppressed the messages for directly injecting skills.

If you find yourself inadvertently injecting a skill, please file a support ticket and you will be reimbursed. The team has also flagged this as an issue and will be adding more information such that it’s harder to accidentally buy an unwanted skill.

All this, and yet the Imicus still looks like this… Well Done!

Oh dear.

  1. The portrait display issue. Please make the portrait hideable again. I’ve had to:
  • Create a random window (chat channel or show info on something)
  • Drag the character screen onto that window
  • Close the chat channel leaving only the useful bits of the character screen window as normal.

That’s not ideal.

  1. The portrait for some reason constrains the resizing of the rest of the character sheet. If it’s showing then I go to Jump Clones, I have to use a scroll bar to look up and down my JCs. Yuk!!

If I do #1 above, once the portrait is hidden, I can resize the character sheet
